http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1633296 Pro football hall of fame nomination were released today. John Elway and Barry Sanders are automatics, but the other names are pretty intruging....It's too bad that there will only be 15 finalists, because there are some excellent names on the list...Ken Anderson, Phil Simms, Art Monk, Todd Christensen, Richard Dent, Mark Gastineau, L.C. Greenwood, Too Tall Jones, Jim Marshall (who's running the wrong way! ), Steve Tasker, Ray Guy (are there any punters in the HOF?), Don Coryell, Paul Tagliabu, Ralph Wilson... ...and, of course, Jimmy Johnson. Even though the Cowboys are the root of all evil, I think Johnson should go into the hall of fame. He made the trade for Hershel Walker (another HOF nominee this year) that practically built the Cowboy's dynasty. Even though the Cowboys had some of the best offensive weapons in football, they're defense was always top notch and fast, one aspect he emphasised...
There's no way he cannot be included. He took a pathetic franchise run into the ground by Landry and took it to the top. Begrudging congrats to Jimmy.
i say no to Jimmy Johnson...he wasnt in the league long enough.. I'd vote for Art Monk R. Dent S. Tasker Dont know enough bout some of the other guys
Jimmy didn't do squat in Miami and he had some decent talent. Anyone could have won a Superbowl with that Cowboy roster. Case in point:
Jim Marshall is my sentimental favorite. Besides playing in 282 consecutive games, he created quite possibly the most classic clip in NFL history...
I like Jimmy, but I'm not sure about the HOF...If he would have won in Miami, or somewhere else, maybe, but he didn't coach long enough...
But who built that roster? I don't recall seeing those players there when Jimmy arrived. Based on what he did on the Hershel Walker trade alone, he deserves HOF membership. All those draft picks panned out and rebuilt a dynasty.
He did more in his short tenure than 99% coaches do in a long tenure. If anything, that's WHY he should be in the HOF.
Neither did Shula, so should that stop Shula from going to the HOF? And does that erase what he did in Dallas?
I don't see why Ray Guy shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame. He was easily the greatest ever at a position that no one gets any recognition in unless they **** up. Same could be said about Tasker, arguably the greatest Special teams player ever. (Which means he sucked so bad he played his whole career running down kicks, but he was the best at it.) Haha, Jim Marshall... he was an awesome player but will always be remembered for that game vs the Niners. "And ball is completed to Billy Kilmer up at the 40 and there is a fumble on the play... the ball is scooped up by Jim Marshall, and Marshall is running the wrong way! Marshall is running the wrong way! He is into the end zone, thinks he has scored a touchdown, he has scored a safety." That and that Dolphin Kicker's throw attempt is on every NFL follies video I have.
Jim Brown doesn't belong in the hall of fame, either. He only played the same number of years that Jimmy Johnson coached...
If Jerry Jones built that roster, they would have taken Dan McGwire in the first round, over Russell Maryland in 1991.
If Steve Tasker made it over Jimmy Johnson, Jim Marshall, and Ray Guy (just to name a few), that will be seriously whack.
