I need to buy a stereo/boombox for my office (without spending hundreds). Features I must have: 1) relatively compact/small 2) plays MP3's from CD-R/CD-RW 3) has detachable speakers 4) remote control 5) good quality product The closest I've found so far is the Sony CFD-ZW755 but it doesn't play MP3 files (that's a dealbreaker). Any suggestions? -- droxford
I should clarify... 1) remote must be a wireless remote (with moderate functionality) 2) device must come with AC adapter -- droxford
I got a Phillips M355 at Fry's a while back. Only cost 100 bucks and sounds waaay better than my Rio MP3 shelf system. It has 3CD changer, plays MP3s, CDs, CDRs, CDRWs, radio, cassette and it has remote control. I looked on their website but the model is no longer there. If you live in houston, go to Fry's or visit the website and check it out. Man, I love Fry's! http://shop1.outpost.com/category/Outpost/Electronicstab/Audio/ BTW, The only wierd thing about it is it does'nt "shuffle" the MP3s or audio tracks!? Is it that much more expensive to add this option, I wonder?!
Looks like WalMart.com had that one, but - dang.. they wanted $178 +S/H for it, and they're out of stock! Haven't found that model anyplace else, but I'll keep it on my list. Any other suggestions? -- droxford
It might hurt your shoulder a bit when you're walking down the street...but if you get a huge piece of cardboard, you'll be able to pull off some great breakdancing moves!
Make sure you do a fair amount of research. My company bought a boombox to play MP3's on for our 'on-hold' music. We used a ripper to pull the music off of cd's we had bought and then used Roxio to burn them to disc. The Sony boombox would never recognize the MP3 files, although all of our computers would play the disc. So I did some research on Google and found that this was a common problem and the suggest fix was to download an evaluation version of a certain burning software package (can't remember the name) and convert our existing MP3 files into MP3 files. Sounds silly, but apparently this additional step took care of the problems and now everything plays fine (as long as we do the additional conversion). Hope this helps and be careful of Sonys.
Thanks! So far, the Sonys don't have the features I'm looking for. Philips seems to have the closest match so far. -- droxford
