Well, whaddya think? Will it happen? If it happens, will you watch it? Who would you root for, if anyone? Personally, there is a strong chance it will happen. I would love it. It would be the best thing to happen in baseball in a long time, and the TV ratings would go through the roof. If it happens, I would have to root for the Red Sox. Opinions?
I will not watch it. The only team I hate more than the Cubs is the Red Sox. I can't believe I'm stuck rooting for the Yankees thanks to the choking Athletics. I could just imagine the whining, sniveling Sox and Cubs fans if they end up losing in the World Series. Sports media would be saturated with their sappy, "woe is us" stories. Who cares if you haven't won in 90 years. Get over yourselves. God I hate them both oh so much! Go Marlins. Go <shudder> Yankees.
My hatred for all things Cub prevents me from wishing them any good tidings whatsoever. Boston, on the other hand, is my current favorite in the playoffs. Of course, this means they will lose, because I am an Astros fan and apparently it is written in stone, on a tablet somewhere in the basement of the MLB offices, that Astros fans must be eternally denied any postseason joy whatsoever, even if it is vicarious through another long-standing suffering bunch of fans.
NONE of us will be able to watch, because a Cubs/Red Sox World Series effectively means the end of the world...
You saw Bud Selig's secret torture chamber in the MLB Executive Offices also? Damn, Buck, we sure do have a helluva lot in common!!
I'd go for the Red Sox, it would be to hard to root for the Cubs. But with all the teams remaing Im going for the Florida Marlins. The Twins are gone they were my favorite team left, now Im stuck with Florida. I would to see a team like florida win it all, lots of people want to contract that team or atleast that was the talk a couple years ago. It would be difficult to contract a team that has 2 world series championships in just a decade into their exsitance.
That would be like spending a couple of weeks in the 7th concentric circle of hell. Only thing worse would be ATL-NY.
Best case senario for me would be Marlins over the Yankees. Watching the Marlins prove to the Yankees (and the rest of the league) that you don't need a 700 million dollar payroll to win would be priceless.
I called this one in another thread as a joke. As much as I can't stand the Cubs, I despise the Red Sox. Yankees all the way baby!
The Marlins can't win the World Series! How depressing would that be to know that an 11 year old team has as many playoff series victories as the Astros have playoff game victories...
The Marlins are the first postseason team I have liked in a long time besides the Astros. Hate the cubs...more specifically Sammy. Hate the Yankees. Go Marlins!
I hate the Sox and Cubs, especially their annoying fans (85/95 years boohoo, feel sorry for us). Since I'm from Miami, it's my sworn duty to cheer for the Marlins. Marlins vs. Yankees in the series.
I would love to see it happen, and I agree, it would be the best thing for baseball (at least for us baseball history buffs) Just think, if these 2 teams do meet, they will be digging up names of players that played in 1908 and 1919 (the last time the Cubs and Redsox won the World Series respectively). That would be a blast IMHO. However, the best part of all would be 2 teams that play in the oldest parks in Major League Baseball. These parks have a history, a character, that todays modern parks try to copy but don't even come close to duplicating. To have 2 teams that still play in ballparks that go back to the early 1900's, in the 2003 World Series would be unbelievable. I would be glued to the TV for every pitch.
I really think that would be an awesome World Series. I've been saying that all year. I hate to do it, but I would definitely root for the Cubs I think. Gotta go with the National League in a worst case scenario. Plus, you can always look at it and say it would have been the 'Stros!
Already two NLCS records have been made in tonights game, and it's still the middle of the thrid inning. 1. 4 triples in a game 2. 3 homers in one inning Fla 5 Chi 4 Let's go Cubs!!
Bob, You mean "1918" instead of "1919" for the last Red Sox world series win as 1919 was the Black Sox Scandal, but you knew that and it was a typo. Well, as my handle would suggest, I would be rooting for the Sox, duh. However, if there was ever a team from the NL to beat the Sox in the WS, I would want it to be the Cubs. I guarantee you that a Cubs-Red Sox WS would produce the highest ratings ever. And as RMTex mentioned, it would be good for baseball because you have some of the most passionate fans in all of sports in the Cubs fans and Red Sox fans. For those of you who are sick of the fans of these teams whining about not winning the WS, I think you have been watching too much ESPN. Of course, it doesn't help when you have Fox showing a million times last night Sox fans at Jillian's. But yes this would be the greatest WS match-up of all-time. I would hope it would go 7 and Pedro beats Prior 1-0 in the finale.
