And you think Rice would take 3.5 million instead of 7 million because? The Ameachi trade, the topic of the thread Rice released not Amaechi trade and Rice released. So this demonstrate to me your complete lack of reading skills and logic. Only thing you can say is that I was wrong in that Rice's is 7 million instead of 7.5 million. Other than that you have no point. Because you can't prove to me that Rice took a 50% deal which is the whole assumption your post is based upon. Let's see what would I do take for sitting at home? 7 million or 3.5 million. Let me think it over and get back to you.
I am a white guy living in Utah for 3 months now. I love it! Great weather...and so much natural beauty so close to the city. In 15 minutes I can either be taking in an NBA game or snowboarding or mountainbiking camping, or hiking in the mountains. Cant say as much for hot, steamy, flat as a board H-town. SLC is a lot more diverse than I thought. I have seen a few blacks (not nearly as many as down south) a lot of hispanics, a lot of asians...and of course native americans. SLC and Utah get a really bad rap...some of it well deserved...but if you havent been here for any length of time dont knock it. Trust me...im living proof...they will let anyone move here!
Actually it worked at better than that for Utah... My understading was that this years actual salary was around 6.5 mil (estimate) but that because of L.A.'s signing bonuses and incentive bonuses his contract counted as more than 9 mil against the cap.... Well it seems that Utah was well under the cap and even under the minimum salary requirements. Each team has to pay out at least 32 mil in player salaries this year or pay the difference to the league. So if utah didn't trade for Rice they would have had to pay the league a few mil because thier team salary was below 32 mil. So by recieving Rice's salary which counts as 9 mil against the cap they saved 3 mil... and toss in Amaechi's contract and they saved another 2.5 mil... So now they have gained 5.5 mil on the deal and toss in the 3 mil Houston so generously through in to take Rice off thier hands. So now Utah is up to 8.5 mil to acquire Rice... Of course they bought out Rice's contract which cost them... ( by the way I don't agree with you that they bought it out for 50%... Rice is not going to throw away 3.25 million just not to play for Utah)... I do believe Rice might have given Utah a million are so off on the buyout just because he can sign on with another team for the minimum which is a little over a mil for a veteran. So let's just say they bought out rice for 5 mil for mathematics sake. So you subtract the 5 mil from the 8.5 and that means they gained 3.5 million by acquiring Rice plus an additional 2.5 mil they don't have to Amaechi next year for a total of 6 mil... and in addition they get 2 first round draft picks. They made out like bandits it would seem. But even after saying that I thought we did pretty well on our end of the trade... Believe it or not unless you have a high lottery pick most draft choices are a waste of time... I mean after the top 5 players who is going to be better for us than Jimmy jackson... And we don't have to wait a few years for him to come into his own... The salary cap leaves players like Jackson free for the taking... And trades are almost impossible unless you are under the cap or have some sort of trade exception. Well we got just got a huge trade exception. They Rockets have a pretty solid base and unless we can pick up a Lebron james don't need any draft picks in the future. We could probably use one more solid player in the future. The trade exception makes us one of the most viable teams to trade with. And I believe if CD finds a player that will improve the Rockets and a team that needs to cut salary they will use it. I'm thinking more than likely it won't be this season but next... And that's when the Rockets will make thier big splash into the upper echelon.
We should have a poll with Rice's future : a.) never going to play in the NBA again. b.) picked up by x c.) picked up by y etc.
I'm not saying Houston did bad by this trade. They did get Jim Jackson out of it. He is probably a better fit for that team at this time then Rice. Actually it works out well for all parties. Rice gets to be a free agent, and pick his team. Utah gets free draft picks and even more cap room next summer. Houston gets rid of luxury tax implications and signs Jim Jackson. The only downside for is for Houston really, because they have to take that scrub, Ameachi. But that doesn't mean they have to play him.
Clippers: Rice to sign? by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com Tuesday, October 7, 2003 News The LA Times is reporting that Glen Rice, recently traded to and released by the Jazz, worked out for the Clippers on Sunday night and the team is likely to sign him to the veteran's minimum once he clears waivers. Views Rice is 36 years old, but would give the Clippers a scoring boost off the bench. If Rice signs with the Clipps, we are not concerned about him stealing minutes from Quentin Richardson or Corey Maggette. ____________________________________________________ Not a terrible move for Rice or the Clips. They get some vet presence and a shooter off the bench for probably 10-15 mins.
That would be the ultimate in reverse Karma. I think the Lakers would be fairly silly to sign Glen Rice for more than one season. I think it's likely the Clippers are the ones who signed him.
