Does Hakeem actually have a chance to win the NBA's Most Improved Player Award? I mean I don't see why he wouldn't have a chance unles he missed too many games or something like that?

That would be kind of offensive since he was injured last year.

I doubt he would even be in the running. I think the top candidates have to be Nash, Jermaine O'Neal, and Stojakovic.

I don't think it's unreasonable to say he is out of the running. Will he win it ? maybe, maybe nawwwww.

Yeah, most improved player is an insult to former MVP, former Finals MVP, and future Hall of Famer. What about T McGrady, though? I think he's improved even more than last year.

I don't think it would be an insult to Hakeem to get such an award but more of a congratulation. Just think about it, for the past several years everyone has been talking about how Hakeem's game keeps going down year after year and that he needs to throw in the towel. Well if he were to win the award or even be a candidate it is saying that his game has improved well beyond last year whether he was injured or not he still played even if it was minimal. I think any award is great for a former MVP because it is only saying how good their game is, has been become, or will be, except for the Sixth Man Award, if a former MVP received that it would mean he went from being the most valuable player to a good bencher.

    roxran,

he was injured last year. he couldn't breath. In what way has he improved? Congratulations for being able to breathe Dream! We knew you could do it! Next up Alonzo is going to improve his ability to handle fluids in his kidneys. Com'on Zo! You can do it! You're the MIP!

The MIP isn't for great players. It certainly isn't for former MVPs and/or finals MVPs.

The award used to be "comeback player of the year". If that were still the case, then Hakeem would be in the running. The NBA changed it to Most Improved Player, because guys that were suspended for drug use were always under consideration once their suspensions were over.
