It's not like the Hawks would make this deal. They need Korver more than ever with Howard on the interior. They will attempt an inside outside game this season.
Sure, if the goal is to beat your opponents 150-149 every night. Trevor can shoot well enough and he also can play defense and occasionally create. You need glue guys like him.
According to 538 Ariza is our 2nd best player currently. Yeah, not a good idea to trade them if winning games is the objective.
No way. Korver turns 36 before the next postseason starts. He already showed signs of regression and will be a free agent 2017 anyway. Ariza on that contract has a way higher market value. Still hope we keep him.
Also want to point out that Korver is not a bad defensive player anymore like his old Utah days. Not that's he "good" but he isn't a negative.
Yes, he has gotten much smarter at team defense. His defensive statistics have all gotten better as he has aged and he is a (slight) positive on defense now using most advanced metrics. He was actually better than Ariza last year on defense, though last year looks like an outlier for Ariza. Statistically Korver is basically slightly above average as a defender and has been since he got to Atlanta.
I like Korver as a specialist coming off the bench at this stage in his career but trading him for a serviceable starter and one of the few defensive bright spots in our roster(and honestly, he has slipped in this area too) would be tragically stupid.
I'm a big Korver fan but he is 35 and just had his worst overall season since he was in Philly as a kid (way worse than Jazz Korver, and Jazz Korver wasn't anything special). I'd take him on the Rockets for sure, but I wouldn't give up Ariza for him.
