Rox wouldn't inform him of this if he was going to be traded and kept by the receiving team. So there's one of two possibilities here. 1. Either we're going to release him because we need/want the extra cap. or 2. We've already agreed to a trade involving his salary and we know the other team is going to cut him. We would not tell him to look for a gig and keep him on the roster because we are looking for a trade that isn't already agreed to because we would not know whether his future team was going to keep him or not. Of the two possibilities it's more likely that we use his salary to aggregate in a trade to get an extra $1.25 million above the 125% or $5 million trade differential than it is that we need/want the extra$1 million of cap space his salary represents. Even in a cap space trade, we're most likely to trade him out to create a trade exception. Besides all this you know very well how morey likes to synergize separate trades by aggregating them to pull out greater future trade flexibility in terms of exceptions, picks, etc. He's most likely working on more than one trade and making them into one transaction. These factors mean it's more probable that Goudelock is traded than released. Doesnt mean we won't outright release him if we can't get all our deals done. Just means it's more probable that we've got a trade agreed to involving Goudelock being released. And.........since we apparently have no interest in keeping him we must have another pg incoming. Chalmers or Rubio are my guesses.
There are more than two possibilities. The third: They may just want to keep their options open and may or may not trade him before August 1 (but have nothing lined up at the moment). Much in the same way the Rockets don't just go ahead and renounce their rights to guys like Terrence Jones or Jason Terry (whose Bird rights could be used to sign-and-trade them if the right deal came along), they aren't just going to waive Goudelock today only to have a deal drop in their laps next week for which they could have used an extra $1 million in non-guaranteed salary for matching purposes.
Unbelievable!!! AG would have been the Curry killa! Huge mistake on The Rox part, also blame bickerimg of the staff for bot allowing this young man an opportunity to shine when the Rockets were having depth problems at PG.
The problem with that is if the deal isn't already agreed to then the Rockets have no way of knowing whether the receiving team plans to keep him or not. What if they wind up trading him to a team that decides to keep him.......and his agent has already negotiated a deal with a third team? They already know he's going to be released. So they're either going to release him or they know the team they are trading him to is releasing him.
I mean he is upgrade over Beverley...So im down not to mention his skill set perfectly counters Anderson/Gordon's
I don't think Goudelock or his agent would have a problem being "stuck" on a guaranteed NBA contract. I'm sure they can negotiate with European/Chinese teams on the LIKELIHOOD (but not 100% certainty) that he'll be a free agent by early August. I just think you're jumping to conclusions based on a couple of tweets from guys who themselves don't know all the facts or circumstances involved here.
That makes sense. Though if Rockets already know the outcomes, of a trade agreement and of his contract terms, then why even announce so early advance about his contract status? Can just let the transactions play out without a single word mentioned and everyone would still get what they want
The Rockets were actually high on Goudelock until this summer. He's a good bench scoring guard. However, he demanded a new contract and separated himself from the team. His power play got himself kicked to the curb.
