You should relax and take a breather. There are more important things to get upset about. It's okay. And if you are still mad at Kevin Durant and hate the NBA next week, then go ahead and self-ban and I'll wish you good luck.

You cant neuter player movement for the fans man. Players fought for freedom of off season movement but now everyone is against it.

Right, which is why this thread is about getting rid of the cap, not implementing a hard cap.

Sacrificing pay is easy if you have a pay ceiling anyway. Sacrificing pay when you could have as much as you want is different.

i see someone brought up the cap-related raises before me. it would be much more difficult to clear $26m if there weren't 29 teams with cap room to trade into. cap-related increases would drastically decrease cap room across the nba. and presumably the warriors would have to get rid of even more players to get to 26M because their current players would make much more. i mean i guess they could do it somehow, but it would be much more painful.

also, i believe the lebron and bosh sign and trades were basically just into empty cap room and just a way to get lebron and bosh slightly more money. they didn't go from no cap room to signing 2 max guys. they went from a record amount of cap room to being slightly helped with the contracts, with a price of future draft picks.

    Exactly.

If Durant could make $50MM from the Thunder he would have never left for the Warriors. This system is Broken when a guy like Mike Conley can make the same amount as Lebron James or Kevin Durant.

In this day n age GREATNESS is categorized by NBA 'chips and somehow if you don't win one you are not considered a great player! The strong just stronger and you have to say Harden will bail if he can't assemble something like that here in HOU!

    Not only Conley
    How about Barnes and Parsons?
Why are they getting max contracts?
Sorry they are good players but superstar like KD.
They are not deserving to make as much as KD

    Definition from Wiki

"A free market is a system in which the prices for goods and services are determined by the open market and consumers, in which the laws and forces of supply and demand are free from any intervention by a government, price-setting monopoly, or other authority."

Hard cap with no max salary. Get 'er done.

(NBA is a cartel so any talk of 'free market' is off base.)

If the cap is $100 million and someone wants to give $90 of it to LeBron, then let them.

Exactly, quick and easy and actually makes sense. Best players should earn a lot more than some role players do.

This is like the 4th iteration of big tv money CBAs.

Having a max contract cap was good in principle at the time.
Having it take up 25% of the max cap was also a good idea.

The problem here is that the player contract didn't scale as the annual salary caps changed. That the Rockets pay Harden peanuts even though he originally got a quarter of the salary that year makes our cap situation more fluid, but you get this bull**** with Durant or Lebron.

So continue to take the best of both. 25% max cap that prorates to the current year's salary cap. Have a threshold that triggers player salary in proportion to salary cap (like 20%+ at the time of signing). This also let stars be stars and players like Parsons feel like underpaid douchebags.

Then let both sides hash out and compromise on things like Bird Rights and base player compensation wrt to trades and cap space (whether it's hard or soft).

It might make sense from a fans and competitive POV but makes no sense from the POV of the "rank and file" NBA player.

Realize that the NBAPA represents all NBA players, most of who are rank and file players. They have as much interest in max contracts as the owners. If you have a league where, say, the top 10% of players are getting, say 95% of the money and the bottom 90% are getting 5% of the money, then you're going to have a revolt of the bottom 90% and the NBAPA and the NBA itself would break down.

That's exactly why the players love max contract rules. Max contracts benefit the average & good players. There are far more average & good players than superstars.
