While many kill the Astros for picking Appel over Bryant, but we are extremely lucky in how a couple other picks worked out. Picking Correa over Buxton is a major win, not to mention it lead directly to us getting McMullers. Also, the D-backs picking Swanson #1 was the right pick, but Bregman looks to be the one that may be the Superstar. The baseball draft is a fickle beast that has these kinds of things happen all the time.
Cubs have screwed up some picks too through the years. They had Bryant fall into their lap. They could have George springer. They could have Christian Yelich. Either of those would have looked good for them instead of trying to play javier baez and Bryant in left field.
hell yeah I would. white sox would definitely ask for him in a package. there is no way we can get sale without giving up bregman.
Pretty sure he'd be a key component in any potential deal for an ace.... but it would require him + a lot more for the White Sox to ever consider trading a young left-handed ace pitcher on an affordable deal.
If there is a serious injury to an infielder, Bregman will get the call. Otherwise he won't be up until September if at all this season.
"Bergman"? I'm assuming you meant Bregman. Also, we don't have Bregman if the Aiken signing doesn't fall apart.
Luck is not the right word... but there's enough out there to suggest that Appel would have gotten stronger consideration in 2011 had his asking price been in line with what they wanted to do with the slot savings (in this case, go after Ruiz and what ended up being McCullers... which probably changes if they had picked Appel). But, he made it known what his bare minimum bonus requirement would be.... while Correa could be had for less... and things ended up working out fantastically (FWIW, Buxton too was higher priced... actually got a bigger bonus than Correa did).
He can platoon with Rasmus in LF, he can spend some time at 3rd, or he can play 2B/SS to give Correa/Altuve a day or 2 at DH. The DH means there are plenty of PA to be had for Bregman, because he is officially forcing the issue. He could start basically everyday, without having an official position, at least for this season.
His versatility is going to be huge... he's Marwin Gonzalez, but better in almost every single skill. Its not unprecedented that players get called up as fast as he did (Schwarber and Comfortis last year made contributions on eventual playoff teams)... but given Luhnow's comments, its going to take something catastrophic (or him agreeing to a Singleton-like deal, which I doubt he does... because why would he bet against himself having success?).
I'm not sure "luck" is the appropriate word here. We scouted him and by all reports absolutely fell in love. I think a better word is "fortunate," because luck wasn't really an issue with Correa.
Last night July 4th's second homerun. <iframe src='http://www.milb.com/shared/video/embed/embed.html?content_id=897205383&width=400&height=224&property=milb' width='400' height='224' frameborder='0'>Your browser does not support iframes.</iframe>
That looked Pujols-like... just mainly from his ability to turn on an inside pitch, and "one-hand" it over the fence. His increased power is a game-changer.... he very well may fit the profile of a traditional 3B now.
Totally right! Very reminiscent of Pujols F it, I've been saying patience and whatnot...but if he is still on this tear into the break, bring him up as soon as you find a reasonable trade partner. Too much success at every level. I don't know what the trade will be, but I do know this team is going to to improve the ML team. Hopefully they can do it while creating a roster spot, rather than a pure minors-for-majors deal. (I would be for moving Gomez or Valbuena if someone will pay for their recent production.)
It is luck in the sense that they are all partially luck. In my mind, Harper and Strasburg have been the only slam dunks in the last 10 years, and as great as they've been, some would say they have disappointed (Due to injuries and ridiculous expectations). There is an inherit amount of luck, but there are skills behind it. I agree that fortunate is a better word.
