I'm not upset we have Anderson, I'm upset we overpaid him by 8 mil a year.

I don't think you pay someone 20M to come off your bench, especially when our PF position has been in such a messy flux the past few years and with no incumbent starter.

Except we totally didn't.... The going rate for an offensive No. 3 the last few years has been around $14 million-$16 million a year. That's essentially what Rhyno should be on a contender, and that's exactly what this contract equates to with the 34 percent bump in cap space.

Also, you can't look at how the rest of the league has spent and tell me that Rhyno should have made $8 million a year less than that. Look how much Parsons made! If anything, we should be glad he didn't get maxed out. I was legitimately concerned that might happen and pleasantly surprised when it didn't.

So your genius idea is to stand pat with a recovering DMo and an inexperienced Harrell? Who is going to hit shots on Harden's kick out? We literally have no one to fill that role, so your defensive philosophy is going to be considered afterwards.

Players should be considered as a total package, not as an offensive or defensive player only. Someone who is a net negative when they are on the court does not deserve to eat up 20 mil worth of cap space, even in the new cap. It's just an abomination of a contract.

Deng or Dudley, both who signed lesser deals on worse teams, would have been way better fits as small ball 4's. They aren't defensive sieves like Anderson (with Deng being actually good). We saw how teams attacked Love repeatedly in PnR's, and his ability to stretch on offense didn't outweigh this liability. I'm a big Morey fan, but he blew it with this one.

Every single Rockets and Pelicans fan I actually know thinks Anderson for $20 mil is nuts.

Exactly. Not sure this guy understands the concept of an NBA cap or free agency. In his world, anyone can be signed for any price (even if they dont want to come here). Why else would he say one of the best remaining sweet shooting big man signings is bad for DEFENSIVE reasons unless he truly believe we could go out and sign Lebron James for peanuts. Lol

For those crying about the defense, we aren't going that route anymore. Morey tried to build a team based on strong defense(Howard era) but it will not be the main focus of this team anymore. For chemistry reasons, Howard and surrounding James with defense just didn't work.

Plus, you have to look at what you have on the team and what is available to get and see what is the best approach. Getting D'Antoni and Howard wanting out means we are adjusting as a team to accommodating James to play the way he wants to play. Getting the right combination of offense that fits his style of play with just enough defense.

Hate to say it but think a few years back to the Mavericks team that won a championship. They weren't a defensive juggernaut but they had just enough. Capela will have to step up for this to work. Howard could of played Tyson Chandlers part but mentally he didn't want to. Anderson is Nowitzki and what you lack there you make up at the two with Harden playing the DeShawn Stevenson role. Marion is Ariza's role and Eric Gordon plays Jason Terry. We still might need another ball handler to play Kidd's part. However, Kidd at that stage of his career was just a defensive guy who would hit a few big three's. Maybe Beverly can handle that role.

Anyways, just trying to be positive and role with how the NBA is changing. It's not the way I would of liked it but that's just were we are.

Yup, stand pat with 2 players better overall than Ryan Anderson rather than wasting 20 mil worth of cap space a season. Use that money on someone else.

I have to assume you are less than 20 years old given your understanding of the game, but there's more to basketball than offense. In fact, the reason the Rockets did so poorly this season was that the defense was bad, the offense was practically the same as it was when they went to the WCF as a 2 seed.

Agree , but 20 mil now is different that 20 mil in the past . I'm not opposed to paying 20 mil for a 6th man of the year caliber bench player ... I don't know if Anderson is that good though .

I think if we keep Dmo and he's healthy he's just better than Anderson so he should start . I also think Andersons instant offense is a better fit off the bench . We will need dmo's passing in the starting lineup if we don't make other changes and of course if we keep him .

The past is the past .

I don't have to assume that your posts are ill regarded as the forum has shown that to be true. There's more to basketball than defense. In fact, the reason the Rocket's lost so many games was because they couldn't score enough. Pair that with the signing of an offensive genius in Dantoni and we find that you are in idiot. Keep trying to put a square peg in a round hole, kiddo.

I'd say it's closer to $3-4M. Under the old cap, Anderson's contract equates to about $15M/ year.

If we're talking about the space he'll provide & his career 3 point shoot8ng, why are we calling him a Power Forward? Wouldn't it make more sense to put his at the three?

Wouldn't we rather a banger down low to play Power Forward?

I disagree, he's not a starting caliber player, he's a 3 point specialist only. That's not worth THAT much even if you don't factor in his age and health concerns.

How many championships do you win if you hold your opponent to one bucket, but you score none? LOL.
