Toronto is desperate to deal Antonio Davis right now. Rockets lack a legit PF. So here is the trade. Houston gains a reliable PF in Davis and a capable scorer in Murray. We lose Cato who has been a disappointment so far in his career. Given Yao’s expected increase in offense and the addition of Jackson, losing Mobley is something that is more a necessity then a loss.
I wouldn't trade Cato or Cuttino for Antonio Davis. Davis is over the hill and frankly he wouldn't amount to squat in the Western Conference. Not to mention his bloated contract, even if there is only a year left on it.
Jammin Jimmy J is a solid player but I wouldn't give up Cuttino to put him in our starting line-up. He will do just fine at the 3 spot anyhow.... My bet is that Cuttino will be so much improved on the defensive end with JVG that he will be named to an "all-nba defensive team". He has the tools, he knows some tricks but he just hasn't been pushed to play hard defense night in and night out.
Let's see what JVG can instill in Mobley this season. If it doesn't work out then deal him. I tink we got a good nucleus right now.
Too old and not good enough. Just wont be able to fit in with our roster or JVG. No Trade for him under any circumstance!
I'm just astounded by these AD trade threads. Even if we do want to trade for him why would we do it THIS YEAR as supposed to next year when (I think) an expiring contract can potentially help us.
His contrctdoesn't expire till 06 or 07, he's 35 or so, and his body has started breaking down. There is no way he will ever be in rockets red, not with that contract.
Sigh. I'm sorry you don't see Mobley a.k.a the black hole, as a problem for Yao’s development. News flash, if you want Yao to be successful and still maintain Francis scoring you can’t have a guy on the team who only knows how to jack up a ton of shots. But, I guess you already knew that.
Sigh. Cat took 14.6 shots per game last year, hardly what I'd call a "black hole". News flash, Cuttino has done whatever the team has asked from him every year he's been here. How about giving him a chance to fit into JVG's system before writing him off, K? But, I guess you're already not going to do that.
Newsflash, if you want Yao to get better you're going to need an extra scorer for teams to focus on, and you're going to need Francis to score less and pass more. How is taking away another scoring option and forcing your PG to score more and pass less thus taking away another threat for the team to focus on going to make Yao better!? As for "jacking up a ton of shots", just for the record, that's what a shooting guard does. Take a bunch of shots.
I wanted to say that, but I'm glad someone else felt that way about Cat's abilities under JVG. I believe Cat will be a totally different player under Van Gundy and should make at least 2nd team all defense team. He has all the talent in the world and really shows up against good comp.
