He would be my #1 guy if I'm Morey! Capela and Horford along with Harden and a new wing like Batum, Bazemore, Lee and I at least can be positive about next year.
This kind of playing out of position excuse is getting old, didn't we use the same excuse trying to explain the failure of Josh Smith career in the last few seasons?
I think they are, we know there are teams interested in them with players we may like...anyway, i'm not sure we're in a positions to say "meh, no second fish", at this point, signing Horford would still be good for us since we need a 4/5 desperately, he would help us a lot in soo many ways we need...if there's no second fish let's stay flexible and in position to make moves via trade, it's very important to not throw away money to random/mediocre role/one way players (like Anderson) imo.
Exactly. His net effect could be something similar to Marc Gasol on the Grizzlies where his value exceeds his box score. To the lazy NBA fan, Gasol's 17-8 average from two years ago might look underwhelming, but he was an All-NBA First Team selection for a reason.
Let's not forget that the trainwreck team last year was more or less the same team that won 54 games and went to the WCF the season before. I'm still scratching at my head at what happened and why team regressed so badly. And to be honest, I don't know. But for almost all of last season, they looked disjointed and disinterested and like they didn't want to play together. If that was the case, there were probably several factors contributing to it. But I wonder how much of it may have been from Dwight and his self-admitted 'not always trying as hard as he could'. If that's what it was, by removing Dwight and adding Horford, who I don't think has ever had any reports like that during his long career, would by itself be a big help to get this back to being competitive.
I wonder if this will be a Bosh situation again - we get Horford if ATL doesn't put the full 5 year max on the table (but if they panic and do, we lose him).
In today's NBA, Horford could be a PF when he needs to in lineups when he is playing next to Capela. Or he could be a C when he needs to if he is playing next to DMo or small lineups with Ariza or Beasley at the 4.
I've thought the same thing. What gives me hope is Atlanta's scheduled meeting with Dwight. I know Stein referenced the potential of ATL playing Dwight/Horford together, but I don't buy for one second that Atlanta is going to start Millsap (making $21M) at the 3 and Horford at the 4. They're a progressive team, and they're well aware of how the league is trending. That's a disaster waiting to happen. What seems a lot more likely is ATL seeing Dwight as a short-term replacement for Horford -- i.e. a big man they can plug in without having to commit to for five years or for max money. Miami didn't have an alternative to Bosh.
Horford is a more consistent player on Defense than Dwight. He is not as dynamic but his defense is consistently good. Dwight can absolutely dominate on defense but we have seen him just not care too many times over the last couple of seasons. Offense is just no comparison. Al Horford does so many things so good on offense. It just does't make sense to compare his superior offense to that of Dwight.
In today's NBA, player's position is meaningless. Especially for the Rockets, which always switching on defense all the time, it doesn't matter you are a C or PG, you will need to guard almost every single player on the court and you always need to move for help defense. Teams can win with Draymond Green as the center, but at the meantime, you can still dominate with a C that totally can not shoot but he is an awesome defender like Jordan from the Clippers.
Which is exactly the reason Sirius XM radio guys were laughing at some guy's suggestion for Zingis to play the 5. Because its meaningless.
I am talking about at the time Lebron went to Miami -- Wade was regarded in much higher light than harden. Wade had already led his team to a championship. Harden is far from that. So no, at that point..Wade > Harden, easily.
Ok, but you still need a big man to rebound, protect the rim, and who's athletic enough to defend pick n rolls -- typically, this "big man" plays the center position. positions still matter in that sense......you can't roll out a team of 6'0" guys and expect to win --- if you could, then positions are meaningless.
