What trouble would that be? Getting to the playoffs every year? Finishing 4th in the west last year? Now granted, they've been bounced in the first round, but look what they did in the offseason. They made some significant off season moves. They will be a force to be reckoned with barring any injuries. Espn power rankings list em 3rd in the NBA. Guess they are doing something right.
I don't have a problem with how much they make, considering how much the league and owners make by using them. Have you seen the going rate of a TV contract?
The NBA makes billions of dollars, and is one of the most successful businesses in the world. Players provide the labor and product -- they deserve a healthy share of the revenue.
Right! Go on and pay $80/ ticket, $5 hot dog and parking ... You asked for it.... Trouble is people like you make people like me pay those stupid prices!!!
Will Yao get the same amount of money in future? Will Les open his wallet? KG gets so much money even his team never pass the first round of playoff. If Yao leads us to championship, how much will he get for next contract?
KG is just another good player who can't take his team to the next level, much less the promised land. Just like Vince Carter, he seems to be one of those franchise players that will never carry a team on his back to a championship, unlike Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Larry Bird, etc. True, his supporting cast doesn't compare to the likes of Kevin Mchale, Scottie Pippen, Clyde Drexler, David Robinson, but that's the Timberpups management problem. And even with the new players they got, they will still be kicked out of the first round. Why? Because KG can't take them to the next level. The only way he is going to get a ring in his career is to ride someone else's coattails to the championship, much like Gary Payton and Mailman are doing. If this makes sense, KG thinks he is a Michael Jordan type of franchise player, when in all actuality he is more of a Scottie Pippen type of role player. I'll reiterate, he simply is not good enough to carry a team to a championship. The rightful MVP was Tim Duncan. He is the best player in the NBA (when Shaq is not healthy), not to mention the best power forward in the NBA also, which another good player mentioned above plays that position also. With all that said, if the guy can gouge that much money the 2nd time, more power to him.
Well, when I originally linked the story, it said "reportedly worth $179 million." I may wear glasses, but my eyesight isn't THAT bad. ESPN changed the story when they found out the exact dollar amount...
I'm not saying the off season pick ups that the Wolves made compare to any of those guys. They are all Hall of Famers. BUT, they have more talent around KG now then there has ever been. Wolves will respond and KG will come up HUGE this year.
SERIOUSLY . .. IF all the Rockets took pay cuts to . . say . .100K a year DO YOU *REALLY* THINK THE PRICES WILL DROP>???? If you think so . . . you maybe a lil Naive If that happen . . .you *might* get 40$ tickets and 2.50$ hot dogs . . .. which is half price but the price of the players would have dropped by over 90% Rocket River
What r u mumbling about? U questioned whether the price 'd drop and you proceeded to cut it in half. I know what u meant though! The fans will always be last on the Totem pole after the owners and the players... It's amazing, isn't? Supply and demand! One of these days, this league will implode ... when not enough fans can afford it ...
Damn....KG is getting paid. But now the pressure is going to be on him to make himself worthy of such a lavish contract, now that he has the supporting cast around him to go deep into the playoffs.
In order... 1) Absolutely not. Not from the Rox or any other team. 2) He won't have to. 3) The championship is basically irrelevant. Yao's salary max is determined by the current CBA. Garnett and others (Shaq, Mourning, Mutombo, Juwon Howard, Grant Hill, + others), have/had contracts that were signed on the old CBA and the ending salaries have been "rolled over" into the new CBA. IOW, they can start their extended contracts at the $ amount of the old CBA contract, but the raises must be in line with the current CBA %ages.
His contract is for just over $100-million. He is taking a pay cut, USA Today reported incorrectly. Steve Aschburner reported the mis-print on Friday.
I would never do that, getting 179 million and not 180 million is like getting 19.99 cents worth of gas.. or setting the alarm clock for 6:59...you can't do that.. you gotta round that **** off.
Contract offer has always been $100 million for 5 years, well under the mas but more than any team other than the Wolves could get him. No, no player will ever make this much because of the new NBA max salary rules. The Wolves can still pay Garnett this much because the salary structure allows paying a player 105% of his last contract, and KG signed his enourmous contract before the lockout lead to this rule, so his deal got grandfathered (along with other players who had signed contracts that would now be illegal).
