The Seminoles are about to end their nice little regular season winning streak.

    f4p,

Sorry for being harsh last night. Reading your post obviously rubbed me the wrong way. It doesn't help that I had a confrontation with my boss at work yesterday (that has been settled, though), that I had only 5 hours of sleep because I stayed up like an idiot to watch the Sox bumble to a game 1 loss that is going to cost them the series, I have a huge mid-term on Tuesday night that has got me stressed, and a sore throat with lots of sneezing. For some reason, seeing that post caused a breaking point.

But it is all good. I am 30 years old. Five years ago, I would have been throwing things, cussing at the TV, all kinds of stuff. But I don't do that anymore. Yes, I want Miami to win every game, but I am a realist now. I do realize that the opportunity to lose exists for them (well except when they play like Temple or someone like that). If they lose a couple of games this season, it is not going to be the end of the world for me. I have enough other things in my life to worry about besides that.

This Miami team reminds me a lot of the '93 team. The '93 team came in with some young players, an unproven QB in Frank Costa, and the previous season had lost a NC game (to Alabama). They were unbeaten until they played FSU and lost. They also lost to West Virginia that year and later were shut out in their bowl game by Arizona to finish 9-3 which was their worst season since '84 (Jimmy Johnson's first season).

The past 3 seasons, not counting this one, Miami has gone 35-2 and yet they have only won 1 NC which is mind-boggling to me (in that it is only 1 that they have won). Coker has gotten them back to the point of where they were under Jimmy Johnson and that moron, Erickson, in being a perennial NC contender. But I know they are gonna to lose again sometime and with Berlin being erratic and Gore now likely to miss, who knows how many games. So, fear not Miami haters;) , you will get your wish real soon, probably by the end of next Saturday 8 days from now.

Reading this brilliant one word post from keeley once again shows everyone here that he is a man who speaks softly but carries a big stick!

f4p - don't let keeley scare you; he will never publicly admit it, but some of his favorite times on this board is to read posts by me on college football when I am excited.:p

Well, the one thing that I did not want to happen happened: Frank Gore is out for the rest of the season.:(

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami running back Frank Gore will miss the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Gore, the team's leading rusher with 89 carries for 468 yards, injured his knee on a 12-yard run in the first quarter of Thursday night's 22-20 win over West Virginia.

Tests Friday revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

"We know that with his determination and work ethic he will be back," Miami coach Larry Coker said.

A similar injury to his right knee caused Gore to miss all of last season.

He hurt his left knee first against East Carolina on Sept. 13, missing parts of practice the following week. Nonetheless, he played against Boston College, sprained his right ankle late in that game and did not return.

With the damage the 5-foot-10 sophomore suffered Thursday, he will have reconstructive knee surgery when the swelling subsides.

Without Gore, the Hurricanes will turn to senior Jarrett Payton and freshman Tyrone Moss. Receiver Jason Geathers also might be returned to tailback.

Payton ran 21 times for 69 yards against West Virginia and caught 10 passes for 71 yards. But he fumbled with just over three minutes to play, a crucial turnover that almost cost No. 2 Miami the game.

"For me, it's going to have to be a different mind-set," Payton said Friday. "Normally, I go in the week just trying to figure out if I'm going to go in and get some carries. Now, I have to get out here and be the man."

Despite Gore becoming the first player in school history to run for 100 yards in each of the first three games, the Hurricanes have struggled on the ground. His longest run was 30 yards, and a lack of big plays have been the biggest difference from a year ago -- when Willis McGahee set school records for rushing, total yards, touchdowns and 100-yard games.

Now, the pressure shifts from Gore to quarterback Brock Berlin, who was 37-of-54 for 352 yards against West Virginia.

Berlin tied a school record with the 54 attempts, mostly because the Hurricanes managed just 73 yards rushing after Gore left.

The Hurricanes play at No. 5 Florida State next Saturday.

"We need to buckle down, because if we don't establish the run this week, it's going to be a long day," Payton said. "I think everything is going to come together this week, hopefully."

As a Miami fan, this is as bad as news as they come. Berlin has struggled to maintain consistency and Gore was counted on to really help stabilize the offense. Remember, Frank Gore was better athletically than McGahee and maybe Portis. It is hard to replace a guy like that.

Jarret Payton is a nice kid and I always want to see him do well because of all the stuff the kid has been through since coming to UM, but he just never has done anything to warrant more than a backup role. Geathers is not bad and Moss was highly regarded out of high school, but he is a true freshman and is not on the same level as Gore. Also, add the fact that Miami is entering their toughest part of their schedule with Florida State and later Tennessee then Va Tech and Pitt, this injury happened at a very inopportune time.

It is sad to me to see 2 great running backs suffer devestating knee injuries like this 2 years in a row in McGahee and Gore.:(

    Get well soon Frank.:(

I just can't believe what Frank Gore is having to go through. I hope he gets well as soon as humanly possible.

    :(

Some guys are just jinxed, Gore is clearly one of those guys. I hate to see this happen the guy is arguably the most talented back in the country. As for Miami they were they were my pick to win the national title, now I'm not sure. I love Payton but he just isnt that good to be a feauture back. Its going to be tough the offense is going to have to start clicking and they cannot afford to take any team lightly like they did West Virginia. Im thinking Gores injury will cost Miami 1 or 2 games. Thus for the first time there will not be 2 unbeatens just 1 (Oklahoma) things will get interesting

Think he'll come back next year? Is he still eligible for a medical RS?

I would say that Gore will come back because he will be just a junior. He has already used a medical redshirt (used it last season), so I don't think he can use another one, unless the rule has changed. So, his sophomore season essentially was 5 games and 1 quarter.:(
