Talk is cheap!! Action speaks louder than words!! Lets not panic, give JVG and Steve a chance to work it out. Steve must not continue his 'Dribble Mania' and his many low percentage shots. He shoud take high percentage open shots if they are available to him.
if steve francis is wide open mid range i want him to take the shot. his shot inside the arc is as good as just about anyone in the league and he can get it off at will. what i don't want him doing are these 1 on 5 suicides to the hoop but i will never criticize him for taking an open jumper. all he's saying is that if he's been practicing his jumper during the offseason and he's not going to pass up a good shot. BigM thinks theres nothing wrong with that.
The statement is not scary, but it is extremely disappointing. If this really came from Steve, he really makes it sound like he has been working on his offensive game all summer, coming up with some more moves and a better jumper. I would have preferred him to say that "it's all gonna come down to me, if there's a hot shooter on the other team, then I am gonna get on him, in his jock, and shut him down. I am gonna be the leader on this team, DEFENSIVELY!" Instead it looks like he just wants to be the leading scorer. To me, that is poor leadership. And that is the problem with Steve's game. Too many average point guards in this league went off on him for 20+ last year, while he was lolligagging in the lane, trying to pick off rebounds. I even sense in some of Griffin's comments a little frustration at being waved out of the interior so that the guards can roam the lane. Eddie seems to be rooting for JVG putting him down on the block, just reading between the lines. Frankly, I think Eddie's comments were highly veiled criticism of the way that Steve runs the show. The other thing about his comments were they were all about himself. Nothing boosting his teammates. Nothing said about knowing that we have to get the ball to the big fella. POOR LEADERSHIP! Come on Steve, use your head for something besides a hatrack.
so would you guys rather SF had 6 pts and 12 assists a game, or 20 pts and 7 assists a game??? i thought this was the nba were you are supposed to put down the open shot??? if steve is open and in at least mid range i say go for it because chances are he will nock it down, if he is not open them i say get the ball inside do yao can get a look and hopefully shut it down.
How about 20 points on 8 of 15 shooting, with a couple 3's and some FT's, and 12 assists to go along with 2.5 TO's? Not to mention keeping the opposing team's point guard's scoring and assist totals under 20 and 12????????? He is capable of those kinds of numbers. He's one of the most talented players in the business. And he is capable of being a difference maker on defense. Mickey Mouse can give you 20 and 7. And toke a joint at halftime besides.
Since we are playing "Would You Rather"........ I would rather have Steve Francis on another team. or... I would rather have Kobe Bryant instead of Steve. or... I would rather have LeBron James. and so on.......
I would rather have 6 and 12 with a win, then to have 20 and 7 while getting beat. I've seen enough of that the last few year!!
i guess thats why mickey is in the league??? besides nobody said anything about defense... in the statement he was talking about taking the open shot, and i guess you dont want him to take any shots..
i would rather win the lotter.. oh yeah you dont always get what you want but rather you have to deal with what you have.
no your wrong.. he needs to get 30 ponts and 2 assist , who cares if we win duh, what ever it takes to win. but if you dont want a man to take an open shot... that is basically what we are talking about... then chances are we are not going to win. i would love to have yao get 30 steve get 20 and cat get 20 a game that we win... but i know the chances are they will not get that(the scores that is), well at least not this year steve needs to take smarter shots, yao needs to get the ball more and be a lot more physical, cat is ok were he is(he is the SG afterall) its all the other guys that really worry me. i mean for how long have people been crying about how our guys cant hit the open shot? and if steve can i say hit it.
Has SF ever talked about wanting/working to improve his molasses defense? Until he commits himself on that end, he's a loser.
I'll take 6 and 12. There are plenty of guys on this team that can score (Yao, Cat, Mo, Pike, Jimmy Jack, etc.) so if Steve would concentrate on his playmaking (he would have to in order to average 12 apg) the team could score more easily. Maybe seeing the damage a pg can do by getting in the lane and passing from the perspective of the offense would convince him to try to keep the other teams point from doing it while he is on defense.
Eddie needs the opportunity to work a little closer to the basket instead of standing at the 3 point line so the lane is open for Steve to drive 1 on 5.
