Rockets went upside BPA. Both picks might blow up either way; that's good.

i dont watch a lot of college bball so i dunno who else they shoulda got, but if they're going with capela as starting c, having two rookie c's compete for backup minutes is a good idea. they both had good stats in their leagues. there's some that were picked before that didnt

They are both good second round picks, but it seemed like a lot of teams made moves to get better while we did nothing. I'm so frustrated with this organization. We're not gonna get back to the promise land anytime soon. Your entire strategy can't be based around free agency; that's just freaking stupid. we keep ignoring the draft at our own peril.

Onuaku does a little of everything, but play offense.

He's a nice pick up for the Rockets.

They might be. I don't know.

I know nothing of Onuaku so I won't pretend to.

As for Joe Chee, he's swing for the fences type of pick right? If he's able to play in the NBA at 7'2, absurd wingspan, and with a 3 point shot? That will be nice. But obviously he has a long way to go and that's why he was taken so late.

Aren't those the guys CFers have been clamoring for Morey to draft in the 2nd? Don't people give Morey crap for always taking BPA?

Eh, anyways, I'm not super upset. I wanted Felder and Bolomboy, but whatareyagonnado.

I agree that these are both really good picks for second rounders. Morey gets a lot of blame for not moving up but I'm not sure who people wanted that could "save" this team. Payton is a good pickup, too. I like getting 2 players who can play D. I'm a Texas guy so Taylor makes me happy. If he could improve his jumper he has a chance to be a rotation player. There were times when Taylor carried the team last year.

    I like Felder as well.

Zhou Qi is two time defensive player of year in CBA, and Kevin Pelton from ESPN gives him the best translated stats in this year's draft.

Rest assured, Morey's track record in second round is pretty good.

Chinanu and Zhou might not turn into good picks. As second round picks, their games have flaws.

Chinanu can't shoot and thus can't spread the floor. I do not see him getting off Pringles bench.

Zhou is too thin and can't defend NBA low post players. I would not be surprised if the Rockets stash him "overseas" while his body fills out. And then he would still be one year in the D League before he is NBA ready.

You can largely credit this guy for your lack of knowledge on Chinanu:

Louisville President James Ramsey who decided the self-imposed school's ban in the NCAA tournament this year due to the escort scandal. I'm not saying or disagree with the decision or anything like that, just saying I think that's why Chinanu was a value at 2nd round 37th.

I think Morey took advantage of how this guy was under-the-radar because of the tourney absence. I think he absolutely would have went sooner otherwise, definitely late 1st round at least.

Chinau does have an NBA body and can rebound, hustle and block shots. He cannot shoot reliably so he won't help stretch the opposing team's defense. He's exactly the type of player who gets picked in the 2nd round. Zhou was a WTF Why Not? pick. He can't get bought out of his contract until 2017 and he's bone thin, plays no defense and is a poor rebounder. But he's Chinese and since he can't be counted on to provide instant help, he might as well help Le$ make a few more yuan over in China. Basically a throw away pick as I liken this to their 2003 pick of Malick Badiane.

Morey has hardly ignored the draft... It's difficult to get markedly better through the draft when you're picking outside of the lottery (really outside of top 5). Morey has done a pretty good job over the past 5 years:

    2015 Pick 18 Sam Dekker
    2015 Pick 32 Montrezl Harrell
    2014 Pick 25 Clint Capela
2014 Pick 42 Nick Johnson Traded to Denver as part of Lawson trade
2013 Pick 34 Isaiah Canaan Traded to Philadelphia for KJ McDaniels
2012 Pick 12 Jeremy Lamb Traded to OKC as part of Harden trade
    2012 Pick 16 Royce White
    2012 Pick 18 Terrence Jones
2011 Pick 14 Marcus Morris Traded to Phoenix for Canaan (pick)
2011 Pick 23 Nikola Mirotic Traded to Phoenix as part of Dragic trade
    2011 Pick 38 Chandler Parsons

Potential picks - Zhou is not ready and not sure about Chinanu

If Onuaku can deliver in his second year, that would be gravy

I'm not sure about the readiness. People say that about all skinny prospects. Zhou Qi played productively against adult professional players, including many former NBA players, for two years. He also added 10 lbs since last year.

Young players or heck not so young players play well in the NBA for stretches...

They got to do it consistently to earn 10 or more minutes in the rotation
