I wonder what JVG would want the perfect night of scoring would be from each of his players... Francis - 20 pts Mobley - 15 pts starting 3 - 10 pts EG - 15 pts Yao - 20 pts Bench - 10-15 pts Is that about right. That sure seems like a balanced attack, but is that realistictic? And I know it will vary from night to night... but what should the goal be?
That would be ideal, but it's hard to tell a player..."hey, you need to get this many points" on any given night. What I'm saying is that it all depends on the occasion, the oponent, and whether or not a player is hot or feeling it that night. I also think our bench will get more points than that, considering guys like Taylor and Pike will be expected to come in and add instant O to the spread.
I think as long as we win the game, JVG doesn't care who scores what. At least that's how I feel. Whoever is feeling it that night should be the one who we run our offense through, but this is how I see it happening: Steve: 25 Cat: 15-18 3 (I find it hilarious how this guy is just a position rather than a name!): 10 Griff: 10 Yao: 20 Bench: 25
No way does J Jackson only average 10 ppg if he is the starter, as one would expect. Also, I don't think EG is capable of averaging 15 ppg over the season...maybe more like 8 - 10 ppg.
105+ points per game? The Mavs led the league last year @ 103 ppg. I know we got Adrian Griffin from them, but we didn't get Nowitski & Finley, too.
I think this team will be able to score around 96 ppg. Steve - 20 Cat - 16 JJ - 10 Eddie - 10 Yao - 17 Bench: 20-25ppg
Steve -- 19 Cat -- 14 JJ - 13 Griff -- 10 Yao -- 17 Bench -- 19 I think it will vary a lot night to night, with one or two of Steve, Cat, JJ, or Yao hitting in the 20's most nights, depending on the matchups. I think the totals could go up in the second half of the season if improved defense results in more fast breaks -- and if we can actually learn to run the fast break effectively. Both of which I know Van Gundy wants desperately to see this team accomplish.
I can't help but feel like our bench will average more than 10-15 ppg. I think that is part of the strategic thinking behind our offseason moves was to load up the bench with scorers who could make some hay against other teams second teams. Isn't that what the Kings have done the past several years? It is a great advantage to have several players coming off the bench who can put the ball in the hole like Piatkowski, MoT, and JJ if he doesn't start, along with a developing Nachbar, if he turns out to be the shooter everybody says he is. The team was weighted in favor of the offense because JVG is a defensive minded coach. He will get the best out of them defensively. It is better to have gunners that will play the tough defense, than to have defensive players trying to hit shots. It wouldn't surprise me if we got 25 ppg out of the bench. And I think that the 3 spot starter will rotate between AG, JJ, Nachbar and Piatkowski depending on the matchup with the other team's 3. That is, unless JJ proves so superior to the rest that JVG doesn't have any choice but to give him the lion's share of the minutes at the 3.
