I hope Steve doesn't pout if his numbers go down but our wins go up. It's a matter of ego and maturity, so hopefully Francis proves that he really does care about winning. I don't see the fascination with Wade. He has a great story, but was overrated in college and I think it will show this season. I'd take Reece Gaines over him. lol about the centers sucking. Seriously, almost every center in the L is a stiff. Just about every back-up is brutal. I actually sort of like that the game is more focused on guards and wings now, though.
Ford's reasoning is straight weak... He put up good numbers because he was allowed to do what he wanted, but now with the new coach, thats going to change... Yeah, I can see clearly how overrated he was...Nice reasoing Chaddy.
wasnt everyone jumping on the band wagon before last season claiming they had a playoff team? kandi (underachiever or not, isnt a 4 pretending to be a 5, and had been decen) brand, odom, maggette, miller....
That may be true that it will be different offense tomorrow than it was yesterday. But what does that have to do with Steve being the "most overrated"? The syllogism makes no sense: Francis puts up good numbers, but Van Gundy will change the offense tomorrow, therefore Francis is overrated today. It also doesn't make much sense in the context of Van Gundy's comments that he felt Steve did a good job of sharing the ball with Yao, which I guess a lot of people didn't hear because it goes against conventional wisdom.
They totally were, the PF example is a farce; you can't honestly tell me that Atlanta last year had playoff talent but the Clippers didn't? that's a joke. The amount of love Brand gets from all sources in comparison to what he has done in comparison to the amount of bashing Steve gets for what he has done in this league is absurd.
SF is a great PG. But he will always be perceived as overrated if his team has a losing record. I hope he realizes that by now.
Francis if overrated, but not as much as Mike Bibby! I still don't understand why he is chosen to the Dream Team instead of Francis. Francis is super atheletic, can dribble and score. But his passing, decision making, and defense are horrible. If this season JVG can't get him to improve in those fundamental point guard abilities, I expect Francis to be moved to 2 or traded.
20+ posts in this thread and only one person has figured out the logic. At the risk of sounding redundant...Steve has yet to learn how to make his teammates better. How many players on the All Star team are guilty of the criticism? Not many. (Before you get too bent out of shape, I meant the All Star on THEIR own team not the AS Team).
Chad's picks seem pretty weak. It seems like he's just saying "I like this guy, I don't like that one." Of course, the word "overrated" has gotten quite a hot potato workout, of late. Maybe it doesn't mean anything anymore. I'd think if you ran Steve in the two man game on the weak side and Ming in the triangle, Steve's points would go way up, Kobe-style. There's other ways to do it, too. Just because Ming gets the ball early doesn't mean Steve won't get it back. Really, he should have more chances to score, and in better position.
Last time I checked, Francis was voted an all star at "G" the last two years, not PG. And if you want to gauge whether or not he was an allstar contributor to his team, check the rockets record with and without him.
Dang! After all of the Francis bashing done on this board, let someone else do it, and people get defensive! Francis has been an over rated point gaurd. Plain and simple. He has not distributed well, at least not so far in his career. Whether that is due to him, or due to the system that he was in, we have no way of knowing. We basically played with 2 SGs, and that's how the system was designed. In the new system, we will find out who Francis really is. If he can't be the pass first, shoot second PG, then he will be riding the pine and whining alot. If he can (and I believe that he can), he will finally put his critics to rest. The intersting thing to watch for is Moochie. He didn't excell in the 2 SG offence. He might just surprise some people in a more traditional set.
And he played what position in the AS game? QUOTE]Originally posted by SamFisher And if you want to gauge whether or not he was an allstar contributor to his team, check the rockets record with and without him. [/QUOTE] SF - you disappoint me with this one 'cause I know you're capable of deeper logic. The 28-54 record was with no Rice, no Taylor, a rookie Griffin (usually playing SF with KT at PF), and no Yao. Francis missed one game in 2002-03 and the Rox won vs Memphis. The Rox record w/o Francis was more attributable to lack of depth and underachievment of personnel than anything else.
He means, Francis puts up good individual stats for himself. But that does't necessarily mean that he helps his team, or make his teammates betters. So, the "puts up good numbers" part is about numbers only.
I still think Mike Bibby is overrated. He is a decent player, but to be named to the USA team twice is ridiculous. Steve isn't close to being overrated, what praise has he recieved anyways. I just lost a lot of respect for Chad Ford. Here's my list of the best PG: 1. Jason Kidd 2. Stephon Marbury 3. Steve Francis 4. Gary Payton 5. Steve Nash 6. Chauncy Billups 7. Bobby Jackson 8. Tony Parker 9. Mike Bibby 10. Eric Snow
That's what YOU mean. but how do you know what HE means? If he meant it, then why didn't he write it? Are your abilities to channel Chad Ford the same as your abilities to channel Tex WInter?
