I think the nba should keep seperate stats for "changed shots per game" or "intimidations per game". That's will show a whole new dimension to a shot blocker. Anything have anything to say to this?
too subjective Hard to Measure. . . I think Oscar Robinson was talking about how they measure Assists now as oppose to when he played He said he'd have had almost twice as many if you judges it based on todays rules Rocket River
Yeah, it's a stupid idea. Pretty much any good shot blocker changes a lot of shots. You don't need to keep a stat for "changed shots" to illustrate the defensive impact of a center...It doesn't even stop at centers. Let's say a guard has to take a fadeaway jumper because his defender is taller. Is that considered a "changed shot"? How about when somebody goes to the basket and has to hang in the air because of the defender, yet still makes it? Sure, the original shot was changed, but the basket was still made, thus rendering that "changed shot" useless.
Before they add "changed shots" they have to go back and look at every one of Bill Russell's games and add his blocks to the books.
Well, when a defender tips a shot, and the ball still goes in, it doesn't count as a block. I agree that a "changed shot" stat would be a lil silly, if only because it would too subjective of a play to accurately tally.
lol...i like that one...if one member starts too many then he gets benched. but a-train...i wouldnt go as far as saying its a stupid idea. i mean they keep track of hurries and pressures and such in football. i don't think it should be an official stat but it would be an interesting one to see kept unofficially.
So, if a team takes twice as many threes as they usually take in a game against the Rockets, because of the presence of Ming, how many of those count as "changed shots?" When a team's entire offensive game plan is changed by a defensive player, shouldn't that tally 80 "changed shots a game?" Good idea, but you can see why the stat has never been implemented, at any level ...
i dont think you can really call those changed shots. i think a better term might be shots altered. with altered meaning the player had to alter his shot to keep it from being blocked.
The "charges drawn" stat is the best idea in this thread. I would've liked to see this one kept back during the Jazz's heyday. Then everyone would've known how much those bastards actually got away with.
