Your efforts to rationalize Trumpnuttery is admirable as he ratchets up the rhetoric.

    pro·fil·ing
    ˈprōˌfīliNG/
    noun
the recording and analysis of a person's psychological and behavioral characteristics, so as to assess or predict their capabilities in a certain sphere or to assist in identifying a particular subgroup of people.

    Seems legit to me.

No one is advocating discrimination, as far as I can tell. I look at it this way, if I was working for the FBI and was tasked with tracking possible Aryan Brotherhood members, I probably wouldn't be too concerned with black teenage girls. I'd probably be more interested in profiling white guys with swastikas tatooed on their neck.

I know, you say this is wrong, but I disagree.

Yeah, I hear Buddhist monks love wearing burkas and hijabs.

Vast majority of racists would never label themselves racists as they justify their bias and discriminations with rational reasons.

So yes, a big part of it is lack of exposure, but that's not all of it. But when you have a candidate like Trump, who openly posts lies about Blacks, who advocates discrimination against Muslims as immigrants AND as citizens, and labels Mexicans as a bunch of rapists - and it helps you solidify your support - then yeah, you're tapping into racist views. Sure, people will say, "he just says what he thinks" - but in reality what they are saying, "finally, someone I can agree with"

Donald's laying off staff as he winds down his campaign for president. He might end up conceding before Bernard.

If that is how he was thinking of 'profiling,' why did he say "I hate the concept of profiling, but..."?

It does kinda look like another one of those moments where he was ambushed by a reporter looking to bait Trump into saying something politically incorrect, and Trump fell for it. I said this months ago: how can he win when he keeps falling for these traps? I've seen him dodge a couple, but not nearly enough of them.

I think it's unfair to the media (LOL never thought I'd say that) to call them "traps." That implies something nefarious.

    Trump makes outlandish claims.
Media asks him probing questions that take his claims down their natural course as part of intellectual experiment.
Trump makes even more outlandish claim.
Media is blamed for laying a "trap."

The issue isn't that the media is trapping him, it's that he has no true understanding of these issues and just makes the most base level claims/proposals that appeal to the "we don't need no educated president, just need common sense!" crowd. When he gets pushed down the road by the media his supporters say they "twisted" what he said.

i personally don't care what Trump thinks profiling is--his suggestion to do something similar to what the NYPD did (which entailed harassing American Muslims without due process) should be more alarming for those who like things like the rule of law (increasingly rare, I recognize).

If I remember correctly, Trump was referring to French and Israeli profiling techniques. So far, this all I can find:

Since I am no expert on their techniques, could any of resident "profiling" experts point toward the racial aspects of Israeli and French profiling?

    well..

lol, if you ask for a show and tell, you'll get one.

In any case, this already happens in America (whether you want to call it racial profiling or religious profiling largely based on the race of the person in question): rest assured though, constitutional rights are only dirt for American Muslims.

Is "trap" not the politically correct term? Anyhoo, I call it a trap, but you'll see in my post I don't blame the media for setting them -- I blame Trump for repeatedly falling for them. I see setting traps as part of the media's job. It's on the candidate to survey the field and make public relations choices in real time. It is indeed the reason we get a lot of politically correct speech that Trump so reviles. Trump is really bad at reading the situation and/or reading his audience. All he knows how to do is produce red meat for the xenophobic beaten-dog segment that makes a decided minority of the electorate, and wouldn't know how to pivot to a position of general appeal even if he wanted to.

you know, hyperlinks exist for a reason. ;)

How about you hear it from the horse's mouth, an Israeli commenter on what he thinks about the use of racial profiling in Israel? you're a click away.

Like I said, the guy is in charge of a laboratory and does not appear to be involved in profiling operations. And Trump also referred to other countries as well, one of which is France.

bahaaha, you're cute when you're confronted with evidence.

    forgot to mention which laboratory?

but take a ruling from the High Court to go.

Yeah, and there's one country he mentioned, Israel, that is not shy about its use of racial profiling.

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel, an Isreali commenter and an IDF commander not good enough for you?

I suspect if you spent more time accepting facts you asked for instead of contorting into mental pretzels and trying to move the goalposts, you'd have much less post volume...

I'll be perfectly honest, I'm almost 99.9999% sure that what Israel does wouldn't hold up in the Supreme Court under strict scrutiny.

due process is still a thing, barring Trumpthon 2018.

Now hold on there. There weren't no facts being presented before your most recent posts. I'll take a look at them a bit further but I agree does sound like Israel uses some kind of racial profiling.
