Before capitalism, sex and war drove all technological innovations. Without it we wouldn't be where we are today technologically.

 

There is a lot of dumb crap in the bible too. It's more like it's fortunate that most Christians don't take their bible as seriously as Muslims take their Quran.

Only one "religion" has a 100% accuracy record for prophecies made 1000's of years ago. Hint, it ain't Islam.

Care to qualify your statement? Are you saying it is only the Jewish prophecies? Just in case you do not realize they are one and the same. Their are more prophecies in the New Testament but they only add to the ones in the Torah and in no way contradict them.

No..but so many Christians make the case that US law is based on the 10 Commandments, even though only a few of the commandments are actual laws anywhere. If you aren't one of them, good for you for having an issue with it and not wanting to build biblical monuments in front of courthouses.

I think most people understand very quickly that they won't get far in life if they rape, murder, lie, steal, and cheat. Plenty has been written on morality by the Greeks and Chinese long before the Abrahamic religions were invented, and are frankly a lot deeper in scope.

Most religions try to convince people that they in fact, have no internal compass and cannot possibly be good without religion, try to isolate themselves from non-believers, and often prescribe some really unkind suggestions of what to do with them.

We don't know if there really was a Socrates, much as we don't know how real the characters in the Bible were, but I'll take Socrates' arguments of morality over any biblical patriarch any day.

 

Seems like morality is a byproduct civilization... rather than civilization is a byproduct of religion.

The birth of Jesus fulfilled hundreds of very specific prophecies. Israel becoming a nation again after 2000 years fulfilled many others. No other "religion" has had so many precisely fulfilled prophecies as Christianity. it is not even close. The difference is night and day. All you have to do is look at the scripture verses what has actually happened. The Bible is much better and more accurate than some random Wikipedia page Google gave you which are the epitome of the broken clock syndrome. That is actually pretty weak on your part. Please try your best to disprove the hundreds of detailed specific prophecies concerning Jesus as well as the ones pertaining to Israel becoming a nation again after 2000 years.

 

Oh yes, and Israel will live in peace with its neighbors. That is working out wonderfully.

Figures, just dismiss the hundreds of prophecies concerning Jesus. Well this is a naive post. No at this time Israel does not live in "peace" but there will be a peace treaty brokered that will last 3 1/2 years that is broken by the "other" side". It has not happened yet but it will. For the quote below, one week equals 7 years. Look it up if you do not believe me.
