So he's shafting his "friend" that is running for his seat, after declaring that he would NEVER do such a despicable thing. What a piece of excrement.
That seems a little overstated. He's a career legislator and an incumbent to the seat; and politicians change their mind all the time in response to circumstances, and presidential candidates have retained or concurrently re-run for their seats in the past.
I don't think it's overstated. Saying "politicians change their mind all the time in response to circumstances" certainly isn't what we should strive for from our political leaders. It would be nice if they actually did what they say they are going to do, instead of constantly "changing their minds." This is something Rubio said numerous times. Marco Rubio: I'd 'maybe' run for re-election if my friend wasn't By Theodore Schleifer, CNN Updated 9:30 AM ET, Sun May 29, 2016 Washington (CNN)Marco Rubio said he would consider running for re-election to the Senate if Florida's lieutenant governor, a close friend of his, had not entered the race to succeed him. Rubio, who said last year while he was running for president that he would not seek re-election, offered a new window into his thinking in an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper set to air Sunday on "State of the Union." Tapper asked the incumbent if he would run again had the state's no. 2 and close friend, Carlos Lopez-Cantera, not run in his place. "Maybe," Rubio replied. "Look, I have a real good friend I've known for a long time who I was running for the Senate with. I didn't run. I said I wasn't going to. He got into the race," Rubio said. "I think he's put in time and energy to it and he deserves the chance to see where he can take it." Later Friday, a spokeswoman for Lopez-Cantera, Courtney Alexander, said the lieutenant governor wasn't stepping aside. "It looks like the press needs a narrative going into Memorial Day weekend," Alexander said. "Carlos Lopez-Cantera is focused on winning this Senate seat, and Senator Rubio has been supportive of Lopez-Cantera's candidacy. I'll let that speak for itself." http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/27/politics/marco-rubio-florida-senate-jake-tapper-interview/ This sort of political expediency gets a bit tiresome, don't you think? Click the link and there's a video of Rubio saying the same thing, that he wouldn't do that to his friend, the Lt. Governor. I'm not giving Rubio a pass. You can if you wish.
