Pinkerton Part II? Works for me. =w= Weezer's Fifth Album Finally Getting a Move-On Possible cover colors narrowed to red, orange, and burnt cyan John L. Ferrer reports: For a while there, it looked like Weezer was going to push it into Zappa gear and start cranking their discs out like they eat breakfast. Maladroit, the band's quickie sequel to their 2001 comeback album, opened to so-so sales and reviews, and was surely their weakest effort yet. But one has to kinda admire the pure speed of its arrival, especially since it contained at least two instant classics ("Dope Nose" and "Keep Fishin'"). The whole scenario looked even more impressive when the group started the rumor mill churning on album five, which was originally slated for earlier this year. But then the band, or possibly just Rivers Cuomo, simply... gave up? So it's a little difficult to report on their next album, now that the wheels are in motion again, simply because no one has any idea what to expect. Will it contain throwaway Maladroit tracks like "Private Message" and "Sandwiches Time?" Is it the same album they started working on last year, or did they start everything all over from scratch? Will all the guitar solos still mimic the vocals? Only Cuomo knows for sure, but the we can tell ya that Rick Rubin has been signed on as producer for some time now. He told Billboard that Cuomo's latest outpourings are deeply personal, in fact, "deeper than he's ever gone." So, Pinkerton part two it is. The band has been practicing and recording demos with Rubin (a process you can investigate via photos of roundtable singalongs available at the official site) and the final recording will go down some time next summer or fall, for release on Geffen. No tentative release date yet, just some time next year. Unless they scrap it again (which they might).
sweet...i havnt been dissapointed with any of their albums yet. sure some are better than others but its still better than most of the crap out today.
They should've gone ahead and released it this year. Then they could've worked w/Rubin on a followup. I really admire bands that can release an album every year. That's how it used to be. Now bands just seem to sit around and do nothing for long periods of time (cough cough...GnR...cough cough).
The Blue Album and Pinkerton were two of the greatest albums ever but the Green album was crap. Hopefully Rivers can turn it around.
It's the Rick Rubin collaboration that intrigues me the most. Like him or not, everything he touches seems to turn to gold.
Matt sharp needs to rejoin and then that'll be good news. People tend to overlook Sharp's influence over song writing and weezer's musical direction. Just look at the crimes against humanity they put out the past 2 years. Hopefully it'll be good. yea
I agree with UTweez. Matt Sharp equals old school (good) weezer. They need to get back to doing those harmonies and **** like they used to. Hopefully that Van Halen phase is over.
Big System of a Down fan? I'll definitely have to agree with you though on The Cult's "Electric", and Danzig's eponymous debut, as well as "Lucifuge", "How the Gods Kill", and "4p". Definitely GOLD stuff there. I can't comment on the latest Limp Bizkit album, though. Rick Rubin's credits.
I'd like to see Matt come back as well, but I don't think that will ever happen considering they don't talk anymore. I think Matt sued them a few years ago for song writing royalties. I've been to a total of 5 shows, the first 2 with Matt. He was the one that always got the crowd all pumped up, jumping around etc. Rivers and Brian just kind of stood in place. Also, Matt sings all the high (falsetto) background vocals on the first 2 records. I've always considered that a big part of "the Weezer sound". Blue and Pink were 2 of the best albums to come out of the 90's. Green was not good and Maladroit was a small improvement. Rivers tried too hard to make power pop instead of just letting it happen like the first 2 records. Hopefully, he's learned his lesson.
maladroit was supposed to be pinkerton 2. atleast i read that more than once before it was released. i still like maladroit though.
