How many miles would you have to run, swim, and walk to burn the equivalent of 1 pound of fat (one pound of human body fat contains approximately 3.500 calories) and how long would it take?

    Running (7 minutes/mile) - consumed per hour 979 calories

Swimming (2 mph) - consumed per hour 408 calories

Walking (3 mph) - consumed per hour 245 calories

I think the answer would be a measure of time.

I recommend using a comma decimal point like OP. This might be a trick question from one of those furinners.

unless this is a trick question divide the 3500 calories by the calories consumed per hour to get the number of hours needed to run then multiply that by the rate at which you are running.

Trick question. I wouldn't do any of these activities for the said times.

    So 0 for all 3.

This helps pop the false notion exercise leads to weight loss.

btw: The question is a "pound of fat" -- not how many miles to consume 3,500 calories.

There lies the tricky part of the question.

So now I tried a pro-rata allocation of 3500 in physical flow based on a nom totaling combined calories per hour:

    2 hours, 8 minutes and 41 seconds.
With 18 miles of running, 4 1/4 miles of swimming and 6 1/2 miles of walking.

    Sorry, multiplied by three:

    6 hours, 26 minutes and 2 seconds
With the same 18 miles of running, 4 1/4 miles of swimming and 6 1/2 miles of walking.

Assume you reach and sustain peak fat metabolism and minimal carbohydrate metabolism at immediate onset of exercise. So approximately 85% of calories are burned are from fat.

Running 36 miles (4.2 hours of running)
Swimming 20.2 miles (10.1 hours of swimming)
Walking 50.4 miles (16.8 hours of walking)

In reality, the numbers will be higher because most people exercise at lower fat and higher carb ratios.

Also, it only takes about 20 minutes to eat 3500 calories.

    Bonus Question:

How much faster do D'Antoni's players lose weight in his offense compared to JVG offense?

"A 155-pound person burns about 596 calories in 60 minutes going 5 mph on the treadmill. At this rate, it'll take almost six hours to burn 3,500 calories. Even if you weigh more -- say 185 pounds -- and go at a faster pace of 6 mph, it will still take almost four hours to total 3,500 calories burned"

That. and its even worse when you factor in what your body does after such an exercise (shuts down and uses no energy).
