Why don't we take any midrange jumpers?

Would be interesting to see the stats on Rockets' players like Jones, Smith, Brewer, Terry, Prigs, Harden, Ariza etc... from about 12-15 feet out when WIDE OPEN.

I'm referring to when Clipper defenders run at the Rox shooters at the 3 point line. It's very easy to drive past them but if you take it too far in you run into DeAndre or Griffen. The other option is to lob up a floater, but a one dribble pull-up if practiced consistently I'd imagine would be hit > 50% of the time by any mediocre NBA perimeter player.

I definitely think changing it up with a mid range set would help out BUT at this point in the playoffs it seems like it would be too late. They just don't practice it and a few missed shots and I'm thinking they will abandon it. Mid range shots will pull them out of the paint a little more especially since they are collapsing hard in the paint after they run the 3 point shooter off the line. rebounds won't be as long and would cut down on some of the fast breaks. We're a poor rebounding team and our team is hanging around for the long 3 shot rebound and if they don't get it, Clippers are off to the races. mid-range rebounds if we miss allow for shorter rebounds and lets our guards get back on D faster. Of course you have to mix and match these sets along with the ones we have already. This is what makes a versatile team that can adjust. YOu can't just keep banging away with something that doesn't work and expect it to all of a sudden change.

You(and a lot of people) imagine that, but the truth is that only a handful of guys can shoot 50% in an actual game situation.

As Livingston hits a jumper to make the future back to back champs go up by 30...

    The announcer says

"The amazing mid range game of Shaun Livingston"

I know morey is watching, how does he feel knowing he got rid of this guy & knowing that he doesn't like midrange shots.

Livingston takes shots from 14 ft and in. That is allowed under our analytics. It's the 16 footers and out where percentages go down tremendously.

Livingston went through 2 other teams after us before he got to GS. How do they feel?

Very few players convert at the midrange at a rate that makes that shot valuable. If a player can convert at a high enough rate, then that player should take the shot. Morey has even said this on the radio and in interviews several times. It is just the players who don't have a midrange game, but can hit the 3-ball at a decent enough clip who should never take the midrange jumper.

Harden takes his fair share. And so does Beasley. Morey hasn't a problem with either guy taking that shot. The analytics perspective isn't that the shot itself is bad, but that players are bad enough at the shot that it isn't worth it versus having the same player launch a 3 at volume.

Nice thing is that the NBA let's us explore the data on this. When we do, we see the Rockets right in line with what the Warriors do. And very select players should be given the green light to launch that shot.

I suspect, next season, we will see Beasley continue taking the shot and we might see more taken by Harden and Beverley.

i hope its cuz we have no good shooters outside of harden, and not analytics

even last season they should've took more mid range jumpers. when the 3 ball isnt working and cant get any layups try the mid range game. its basketball, not analyticsball. kobe and jordan made a killin shooting jumpers. play the fkn game!

Who on our team is good at midrange? Beasley? He almost exclusively shoots midrange. We went hard after Aldridge/Bosh, both midrange guys.

Road the bench when he was about the only good thing happening to our team.

We don't have MJ or KObe in the team, why do you assume when the 3 ball and lay up aren't working players like Trevor Ariza and Cory Brewer will suddenly become mid-range masters?

Most people who post here talking about the need to "play the ****ing game" don't even play basketball, if they did they'd realize they themselves don't take mid range shots and just settle for 3s and drives to the rim. Otherwise their entire team would get mad at them for bricking shot after shot.

i dont assume, and until the playoffs it wasnt written in stone harden was the only one who can be halfway decent at mid range jumpers. you have to at least try! its absolutely imbecilic to keep going 5/30 from three and never daring to try a mid range jumper. why not set up plays for full court heaves then if they're gonna use that logic?

i cant believe this sht has to be explained. it should be basketball 101. no threes, no layups, no fts? THEN TRY A MID RANGE JUMPER!

You're not a real Rockets fan if you argue that mid range jumpers are an efficent shot. We have the best analytics GM in THE LEAGUE.. and you dare critize his system of playing PERFECT basketball? People need to understand analytics
