I'm not defending their answers. They screwed up more things than I can count. But at least the Clinton Administration answered the questions. They answered them poorly, but they did answer them. About blowjobs. And 20-year-old real estate deals. Bush won't allow an investigation into the greatest terrorist attack in U.S. history. Or our energy policy. Why aren't more people mad about this?
Let me get this straight. You'd be ok if the White House answered questions in a way that was deflecting them rather than answering them? That's what Clinton did.
It's the White House's job to protect itself -- it's despicable, but it's true. That's why an independent investigation is needed to look into serious matters. So officials can't hide behind rhetoric and false assumptions. Frankly, I couldn't care less how Clinton answered questions. The investigations gave us all the information we wanted -- and he couldn't hide from the truth. He was a good president, but I wouldn't trust my dog with him. Clinton did, however, approve *every* stupid investigation imaginable into his administration. Bush won't even allow us to peek at his energy policy, much less into Sept. 11. Why is that?
The President does not have the authority to block an independent investigation. He can claim Executive Privilege...but even that has to be done in the course of questioning.
OK, the Bush *Administration* has blocked independent investigations. They don't even allow cursory Freedom of Information Act requests into these issues.
They can't legally do it. Apparently it hasn't been important enough to the interested parties to seek a court order.
