Anybody who says Curry isn't a GOAT scorer is just dumb. Its not about ppg, its about efficiency. Lots of players score over 30 pts a game but they do it because they shoot a ton of shots, Curry is playing on a loaded team and he has Thompson, Iggy, Green hell even Bogut was the offensive cornerstone of his team back in the Bucks. So really his low pt total has to do with having good teammates who can also go off and score on their own, if he was selfish and dumb like Westbrick and he took like 30 shots a game then maybe Curry average something like 40 given his efficiency it doesn't mean he can't score over 30 he just chooses to set up the team offense over getting his shots because that's his job. Pointing to a series of games in the playoffs where he didn't shoot well is pretty dumb considering its such a small sample size, look at his work since his rookie year to see that Curry has been a good shooter since day 1, and then elevated it to greatness last season. I mean the dude broke the 3 pt record, and then broke it again this year so what else can you really say? P.S. There a lot of reasons why people consider MJ the Goat (individual accolades, playoff stats, eye test, Space Jam, etc), but please don't use the 6 rings argument it's just dumb. Why is he the GOAT with 6 rings when Russell has 11? Not only that, people always act like he went away for 2 years and the 6 rings were some unbroken legacy, but the reality is they lost in the ECF the year he got back, so really he was out 1 year and lost the other year and yet people act like Bulls were beating everyone every time. Finally, Bulls and MJ peaked at the right time. His "rivals" were all already old and about to retire (Bad Boy Pistons/Celts/Lakers) whereas his new opponents were stuck on crappy teams and basically 1 man shows. OTH, Bulls had possibly the 2nd best wing player in the league as his "side kick" (like Superman having Batman as his side kick), and then you had specialists like Rodman and Kerr who were elite at what they do, its not a stretch to win 6 rings if you had a super team and the rest were all alone I mean Dream had injured Ralph Sampson and a bunch of druggies wtf was he supposed to do?
He is not even remotely close to being a top 25 player of all time. This Warriors team is clearly a top 5 all time team, though.
exactly. he takes 11 3's a game even though every team he plays is almost solely focused on keeping him from taking 3's. that means he has to take some of the most difficult 3's you can take and he still shoots them ridiculously well. most people simply wouldn't be able to get off 11 3's a game if they were guarded like curry. that's what makes it incredible. and that's why his teammates get wide open shots. now is their an argument that his teammates help him? of course. if he played on some 50 win team where the defense only focused on him, he'd probably get trapped on every pick and roll b/c teams would just make his teammates beat them 4 on 3. and he might have to play 38 minutes a game and get worn down more. that wouldn't make curry a worse player, but it would probably lower his stats. but then lots of guys are helped by having the right teammates so it's not unique just to curry. and is there an argument that playing in an era where 3's can be freely taken would have helped some past shooters? probably. but they would probably just increase their 3 vs 2 ratio, not keep all the shots they took and then add 5 more 3's. and they'd also have to deal more with zone defenses making other things more difficult. so who knows exactly where it balances out.
BWAHHHHHHHHHHHH Guess I answered my own question. Why are you talking about the physical play being allowed now? You didn't think hand-checking could stop him.
From a top 10 player to a top 100 player. He is just not great, maybe another role player in the rockets, who can shoot the ball during the regular reason.
If Curry can win at least another championship and can continue to have a few more amazing regular seasons in his prime, he can at least be like the Peyton Manning of the NBA PGs. That is an amazing regular season player, a mediocre playoff playoff but a sure HOFer and considered a top PG of all time (like Peyton Manning is a top QB of all time despite his playoff chokes.) Being the Peyton Manning of NBA PGs is not that bad of a career.
Am I on a Rockets forum? The love for Curry here is kinda sickening. Admittedly, he's a great 3-pt shooter, perhaps even in line with Reggie Miller (who I would consider one of the best ever) but that's about it. He's not a transcendent ball-distributer and his defense is pedestrian. He happens to play on a supremely talented and lucky squad (at least, up until this year's playoffs), which does elevate his game, however, put him on the Rockets (ewwwww!) this past year and I have no doubt that they get bounced in the first round.
These people voted Steph Curry the GOAT haha Air Langhi, Audioout, BreakYoSelfFool, chow_yun_fat, cmpatel, DeAleck, DMtheGM, finalsbound, folsomrtl, got em COACH, iSentient, Jontro, KillScarz, lean, munco, New Generation, nineballnoob, Omron, OpenLayup-Why3?, Progs, rawbrah, Rocketeer, Rocketfan94, rocketsballin, RocketsFido, rofflesaurus, SaFe, scv_rockets, seclusion, Showtyme11, WestendMassive, what, xtruroyaltyx, zlicciardo Wekko? It exactly reminds me of what people said about Peyton Manning when he choked on the playoffs and Super Bowls despite phenomenal regular seasons. And if Curry's career resembles Manning's it's not a bad career and would certainly place Curry as a top PG of all time similarly to Manning being a top QB of all time even if not GOAT level.
I don't think he can pass Magic Johnson. If he's the best PG ever, that would mean he'd be top 3 player of all time and even considered GOAT by many, because that's what Magic is and he is the best PG of all time.
