Coach K doesn't know basketball, raves about Dantoni

Yeah, LOH is a misnomer. It should be LOFH (LOF hater).

And there are also LOFHs-->LHs (LOF haters turned Lin Haters). I see many people who hate Lin because of Lin fans.

Basically, there are many "haters" but very few "only haters." Generally don't just come to hate on someone. They are fans who happen to hate someone. I see few Curry-only-haters in the Dish.

Back on topic. I don't see how Coach K could know what kind of head coach D'Antoni would be. Coach D only worked as an assistant under Coach K at the Olympics.

Well, I see that Les has gotten the Rockets PR campaign into high gear. It will only get worse from here on. Seriously, I'm expected to ignore D'Antoni's history & record because Coach K said nice things about him? Didn't hear any mention of MDA for any of the other open coaching vacancies but Les & Co being the smartest guys in the room know something the other organizations didn't. So a team in total disarray with obvious defensive shortcomings hires a coach with the same shortcomings and fans who deal in the real world aren't expected to be smart enough to question the absurd logic at play here. The contempt that Les has for Rockets fans must know no bounds.

JVG also raved about JB Bickerstaff and tons of people raved about Mchale also.

I don't have any negative thoughts on either, but just saying...

 

Like others have said, JVG refuses to say anything bad about any coach, including JBB last season. Instead, like all coaches including coach K, he goes out of their way to pump them up. It's a fraternity of sorts.

 

This comment can't be refuted, no matter how hard internet fan wants it to be.

Even if a coach will never say anything bad about another coach, they still have more information to go on than Joe Clutchfan does. Until internet fan attends an actual NBA practice, he's still more in the dark about what NBA coaches are doing to impact a team than other coaches are.

 

It's not so much "what" someone says but rather the tone and the way in which they say it.

 

Is it any coincidence that MDA does best with a good PNR guard?

I don't understand why some of you are bringing up that Coach K played for Bobby Knight. Why the heck do you think I brought up his name? Holy.

Choking players, throwing chairs, and generally being a cantankerous a-hole might have flown in the 70's and 80's but it's not going to work today.

The opinions of coaches on other coaches is as kiss ass as it gets. They never speak poorly of each other. Whenever someone gets fired a host of coaches come running to say what a great coach he is, etc. It's predictable.

 

That's not the case here. Coach K really does like D'Antoni as a coach. He's not just giving canned answers.

Maybe Jeff Van Gundy was just being nice... but Coach K really does like D'Antoni.

 

Coach K chose Bobby Knight to give his introductory speech for entry into the HOF in 2006. That's when he said, "There is only one person who I still call Coach, and that is Coach Knight."

It's pretty clear you didn't know all this. It's ok. We're just saying that you probably should have chose better example than Coach K's mentor.

 

I often wonder why a person would be a fan of the Rockets when it seems like it brings them misery.

 

There's a difference in words and actions. Yes, all coaches will say positive words about other coaches when asked in a public forum. However, the Team USA relationship goes far beyond merely a nice line in a TV broadcast. Apples and oranges from JVG's throwaway line about JBB.

 

Ultimately the Rockets will need to win to silence most the fans (including myself), but Coach K genuinely believes D'Antoni is an exceptional coach. A number of coaches think he is very talented. I don't dispute that, I just don't know that his personality is the sort to be effective in a few years.

 

Except Coach K actually has had first hand knowledge working with and delegating duties to D'Antoni, unlike JVG and JBB. But continue spewing the negative spin on everything D'Antoni.
