Well, the 76ers, in the 31 games before D'Antoni got there, their offensive rating was 94.8 and their net rating was -13.7

In the 51 games after D'Antoni got there, their offensive rating went up to 102.5 and their net rating went to -8.5.

So they improved their net rating by about 5 points per game, which is a pretty big change.

They went from 91.4 points per game before D'Antoni to 101.1 points per game after...

That's an increase of nearly 10 points per game.

So their offense got way better after D'Antoni got there. And they weren't able to learn his system in training camp. They were learning on the fly.

I disagree with those who say Coach K has to say nice things.

I agree that he wouldn't say "that dude sucks and shouldn't be a head coach". But, he could easily be a bit more passive in his response, or just short. Instead, he seems to have chosen to expand on his praise, which I take to mean he actually cares to provide positive feedback on the guy.

Uh, well, Bobby Knight was Coach K's coach when he was a point guard at Army. Bobby Knight was Coach K's mentor. Bobby Knight called him the smartest point guard he ever coached. And Coach K said in his induction speech to the HOF, "There's only one person I still call coach, and that's Coach Knight."

Bobby Knight also gave the introduction speech for Coach K in the HOF induction. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure "Coachh K would probably put in a good word for Bobby Knight, somewhere."

Edit: Responded before reading further to see responses by JoeBarelyCares and Mikol13. Bobby Knight invented Motion Offense and taught them to Coach K. It was a change he made when the NCAA changed the rules regarding screening, which then allowed Motion to flourish. Knight was the first to take advantage the rules change, and it was a paradigmatic shift.

A lot of coaches will praise D'Antoni, he is probably the best offensive coach in all of basketball. He is very knowledgable of all the aspects of coaching. Whether he will do well with the Rockets remains to be seen.

Exactly. The proof is in the pudding, he let him run the whole offense.

I understand the skepticism of the remarks, but the source has some gravitas. So, there is that.

I do NOT question MDA's coaching chops but I do wonder about the staff and his relationships thereon as well as what the fraternity of NBA players, including Team USA, feel in their hearts about him. Can D'Antoni still 'bring it' as relating to players' emotions?

    I wish I knew...

It's too bad for the Knicks and Lakers that they didn't know D'Antoni's flaws and understand he needs a strong staff around him. They were probably confused and thought MDA was a strong defensive coach. Oh well, I'm sure the Rockets are much smarter than those teams. Hell, what do the Lakers know about putting together a championship team, right?

There has always been and will always be arguments between fans blaming the coach and those blaming the players. If you call that a DOF v DOH war then I think you are misusing the meaning of Only-Fan, which appears to only apply to foreign players and the foreign fans, who otherwise don't really follow the NBA. And I suppose there were KOFs too

I'll go so far to say LOHs is an invention that doesn't exist too. It was just another thing LOFs said to make Lin scheacial. No one only hates on Lin. However, we did hate on LOFs

I'm glad you are so good at judging people's character on such little information. That's a real talent!!!!

I think that was a little too enthusiastic for it not to be sincere. You can get by saying nice enough things about somebody you aren't thrilled with and not go to that extreme.

It doesn't matter what coach K says, if Mike D doesn't win the championship before the year starts, everyone here will be starting threads on firing him.

Okay, this thread is actually sad. Surprised it came from you.

D'Antoni is a poor coach who is the exact opposite of what the Rockets need. He was picked because the Rockets owner - who isn't qualified to make these decisions - hand-picked him.

This is not just "the narrative." It's the truth. Just because you have CF's usual idiots on the side of the truth for the first time doesn't mean you need to take the opposite side.
