He doesn't. He's a **** hire. I've said this many times and was able to dial up some blind squirrel foresight when I predicted this hire back in November. But to say "you don't win with speed" when the NBA s pace kings are closing off a 2 year run of historic dominance where their only competition is the 96 Bulls is obviously just....wrong. As wrong as the D'Antoni hire
He outright said that Bonzi couldn't play for him because he was fat. He called out Stromile for being lazy and not caring about the game. He's said worse things about plenty of his former players.
wait, these quotes are years after players were already long retired. can you imagine him saying this stuff about a 2nd year player in the league he had just coached? it's like mchale going on tnt and saying harrell didn't get playing time because he sucked
Interesting. Warriors 2nd fastest pace. Toronto, Cleveland, San Antonio, 28, 29, 27. Clippers 16. OKC 9... Doesn't seem to be a clear trend that indicates you need to play fast pace in order to succeed in todays NBA. BUT, if wou look at offensive efficiency, top 7 teams are: GSW, OKC, SAS, CLE, TOR, LAC and POR, probably the best 7 teams this season. But you see the top 10 defensive teams and don't necessarily find top NBA teams.... It would be right to afirm that you need to have a great offense in today's NBA to win big. Not necessarily a super fast team. In fact, one would say that there are more arguments to sustain the opposite, since 3 of the top 5 offenses this year stand at the bottom 5 at pace...
You've actually got it backwards. D'Antoni was the one pushing to acquire Shaq and Kerr was the last one to be convinced.
The scary thing that we need to fear with Dantoni is not that he threw Jordan Hill under the bus, it is that he played Jarred Jeffries over Hill all year long. That is the only memory I have of Dantoni in NY. I recall laughing at how hw played Jeffries 30+ minutes a game for the Knicks all year long. That is the equivalent of us llaying Joey Dorsey 30+ minutes a game. Any coach who plays Jeffries that much gets the losing record he had in NY. First thing Woodson did to turn around that team was bench Jeffries.
The real fans are the ones who are the most annoyed. Because the emotional and financial investment in this team is being laughed at by the owner.
Or like Popovich saying that Patty Mills didn't play much the prior year because "He was a little fat ass" ? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-patty-mills-was-a-little-fat-ass-last-season
Leslie isn't trying to insult us - he just can't help it. Through hard work, ability, and most importantly, a staggering helping of luck, he has become fabulously wealthy and successful by monetary standards, enough to own the virtual ATM that is an NBA team among other lucrative assets. People who have this kind of success tend to overrate their own acumen and ability both in their chosen field and pretty much every other field, as well as underrate the degree to which random, unforeseeable events will cause their ultimate success or failure Sometimes they even get lucky again. Sometimes not. But otherwise, as Leslie, he looks upon his kingdom, sees evidence of his eminence, and does what he wants because, why not? He got this far before, and he's surrounded by people who probably hope not to offend him. It happens. It doesn't mean you can't be successful in spite of it. It's just harder.
I can't believe Les basically said one of D'Antoni's strengths as a coach is that he gets his players paid in free agency. Meaning he makes them look good, and teams are willing to pay a hefty amount for that.
I don't think MDA has changed one bit since his heyday with the Suns. Rox should have had the assistant coaches up there in order for us to get a better feel for how the team will change. MDA linking defensive intensity to offensive ease/output is a major positive. Getting players to commit to defense is already an uphill battle, when they aren't scoring (at the level they should be), defense is a foregone conclusion. I can't remember who it was, but someone in the WCF this year mentioned just how backbreaking giving up an offensive rebound is. You can see it on their faces and body language. It truly is a microcosm of the principle MDA was referring to. As for Morey and Les, I agree that they were behaving quite atypically. I can't remember Les ever taking such an aggressive approach and Morey reducing himself to the background. The swagger that seduced Dwight is gone. No way in hell these sad sacks snag Durant.
Rockets getting new Uniforms Les beleives. . . GO FASTER is the answer to everything Cause Les knows. Rocket River
Sometimes you are full of $&@$. Did the Bulls unhappy defensively when they were making the Eastern Conference Finals with Derrick Rose playing zero defense? They were first in the NBA in defense. We're the rest of the Thunder mad that Westbrook gave poor defensive effort for most of this season? I don't think so. We're the Lakers mad when Shaq didn't give any effort defensively? Kobe? The Blazers this year with Lillard? You can have some interesting posts sometimes, but more often than not you are just making up bizarre fantasies. What Rockets player other than Howard (who his teammates didn't think deserved touches) was being limited by the offense? None, they were a bunch of role players or were not effective or hurt. I take that back, Marcus Thornton was upset... But he is also a grade A #%$&&&.
