The Charlotte Hornets today filed an application with the NBA to move to Memphis for the 2001-02 season. I'm surprised by this. Charlotte has a referendum for a new arena scheduled this year. I guess the Hornets are just covering their bases. If their arena efforts fail this summer, the team will be free to move before next season. However, the city they applied to move to will likely be filled by that team from Vancouver. ------------------ Houston Sports Board Help Finance My Movie - Buy A T-Shirt or Make a Donation
Looks like Louisville might be getting a team after all. Kentucky Colonels formerly the Charlotte Hornets Hopefully the citizens of Charlotte vote for a new arena to keep the Hornets. ------------------
How does a realignment sound? Isn't Memphis in the central time zone? Dr. Jack is suggesting that a team like the Bulls move over to the Midwest. I don't think the Bulls would be happy coming over to the West. ------------------

I wonder why if Memphis is too far East to be a Western Conference team why Chicago (which is further east than Memphis) should be moved to accomodate the conferences? If someone has to change conferences, I would think that the Bucks would be a better choice than the Bulls (Not that Milwaukee is that far West, either, but the Bulls just seem to belong in the East because of their recent history. Who cares about the Bucks or where they are?). But I think it works just as well keeping Memphis in the West. ------------------ Houston Sports Board Help Finance My Movie - Buy A T-Shirt or Make a Donation [This message has been edited by mrpaige (edited March 26, 2001).]
Charlotte should move to the Atlantic. Other than that everything seems fine. Memphis is more Midwest than Vancouver. That just didn't make sense. ------------------
News here is about a franchise swap with one of the teams to be in Charlotte-- weird! ------------------ Time is a great teacher-- only problem is it kills all its pupils. PowerbizOnline.com
I heard that, as well. The swap would be that Shinn and Wooldridge would get the Grizz and move them to Memphis and Heisley would get the Hornets and keep them in Charlotte, possibly selling them to Hugh McColl's Charlotte group. I don't see how such a swap benefits Heisley, though, so I don't think said swap will actually happen. ------------------ Houston Sports Board
By the way, many Vancouverites seem to think that since Charlotte also applied to move to Memphis that the Grizz are saved for Vancouver. Personally, I think the NBA would be more interested in simply approving a second city (if necessary) than letting the Grizzlies rot in Vancouver and eventually go bankrupt. ------------------ Houston Sports Board
I feel sorry for Grizzlies fans. They are in denial that the Grizz are gone. I was the same way when the Oilers left. I didn't want to believe it until the first preseason game played in Tennessee. Grizz fans won't believe it until the NBA Draft when it will say Memphis not Vancouver in their place. ------------------
