Meanwhile, Mellissa McCarthy fires back at fans who disliked the trailer... "I have a visual of those people not having a Ben [McCarthy's husband], not having friends, so they're just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the Internet. I just hope they find a friend." Great! Let's now attack the fan base with the oldest insult in geekland. That should put those lonely internet losers in their place, which definitely won't be a movie theater seat come July 15. WTF is she thinking? What is there to be gained from blatant alienation of fans? This will not end well. Turning hostile on the fans only works in the WWE.
She is cracking under the huge failure. "fake world of the Internet" might be the biggest sign. Everyone in person tells her she is great, only the mean nerds on the net have a problem with the movie.
Maddox said it best. They're using gender as a gimmick at best, and a shield from criticism at worst. Not only is it a remake (I hesitate to call it a reboot, because I find it hard to believe this was ever meant to start a new canon/serial... simply a cash in on a name), which is WAY too common nowadays, but it's a remake that *no one wanted*. What audience were they aiming for here? You think the Gen-X and Millennial males that grew up with this movie and now cherish it aren't going to have high standards and will tolerate gender tropes, bad writing, or lackluster visuals? If that's not their audience, then who is? Were they really expecting to ride the 'girl power' train all the way to box office success here? Were women clammoring to have a female Ghostbusters movie? Or a female adaptation of *any* male roles, for that matter?
This movie needs Beyonce teaming up with Nicki Minaj to butcher...I mean cover the original Ghost Busters theme song.
I'm just saying they need to remake Back to The Future with two attractive female leads. All the while play up the lesbian undertones between Doc and Martia (the female Marty) while still doing everything the first series did with better CGI. We got a gold mine here people.
so the chics just happen to have the same traits as the original guys, thirty years laters. Unless, they're all daughters, I'm not buying it.
Remakes have always been part of cinema/Hollywood. In the very early days remakes weren't even 2-3yrs apart. It's no different to having multiple productions of the same play in theatre, year in, year out. Obviously, not all are worth watching. Remakes/reboots aren't the problem. It's what the final product is. It might turn out to be a good movie, but it looks like straight to video fare. Paul Feig does, and he 's not the only one, what I call millennial Meg Ryan crap.
This is something that is very hard to corroborate. Beyond that, I think it's a mistake to compare the "very early days" of cinema to now. Were the copyright laws the same? Was there a lot more material unprotected to allow for these remakes? Being able to create a movie was a lot more difficult and costly back then, so I doubt people were willing to take as many risks. "Remake [Popular Movie] again? If there's $$$ to be made, sure!" Then you have a metric ton of cross-national remakes/adaptations. It just doesn't have the same stink to it that modern remakes do. And I very much disagree that remakes aren't a problem in and of themselves. A lack of original IP is a huge problem in the entertainment industry in general.
International trailer is out and it's actually much better than the other trailers. This leaves me somewhat optimistic. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qH5rgRXkgAk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yep, much better trailer. At the end of the day, if it's funny and entertaining that's what matters. The cast, male or not, is talented, so I think it's a bit unfair to assume it will suck.
Looks stupid though and I actually like all of Mcarthy's movies even the ones that people think are bad. This one just looks like a bad idea though. You don't remake something in this manner it's just stupid.
Still looks like generic garbage full of clichés and cheap humor. And I don't get why you bring in an all-female cast just to make the characters completely stereotypical comedy/non-sense females, Disney has shown how to do it with Star Wars VII.
You mean like copy the original star wars? The original gostbuster was pretty cheesy. It just had a great cast.
