Always was a Morey fan, but I can see this being his final season as the Rockets GM. It's come to a point that no other coaches want to come here.
So what happens if we somehow win 50+ games next year and qualify for the playoffs? Does your sort of attitude preclude you from 'jumping on the bandwagon'? Are you out for good?
Eh, this hiring SCREAMS LES That said, it's crazy that a decision made by the owner can be the GM's demise, but that's how it's looking.
Let me predict the future: Mike D'Antoni knows Morey didn't want him, creating friction from day 1. He will be suspicious of the assistant coach. Things will go wrong, D'Antoni will blame Morey and make it seem like hiring D'Antoni was a great idea except for Morey screwing it up. Les will fire Morey because he will believe it. After all, what other reason could there be for his genius idea to fail? One or two years later, Les will sell the team and new ownership will fire D'Antoni obviously. Having said all that, I'm giving MDA a chance. I'll support him with no preconditions. Let's see how it goes. I pray that I'm wrong and I don't wish punishment on anyone just because it's not one of my top choices.
Diminished role? I think Mike D'Antoni's former organization, the one he's leaving, just tried that with Daryl's right hand man. "Here, here, take this diminished role Sam." Diminished role? Jeez, I wonder how that's gonna go!? Can't wait to find out!
