If Altuve maintains just 75% of this pace (not just walks, but HRs, doubles, RBIs, etc), he will have the greatest season by a 2B in franchise history.

    What an awesome player!!

He is freaking unreal right now. He isn't just hitting homers, he's hitting no doubters. He's also hit a few to CF that would have been out in other parks. That double last night was obliterated, and would have been gone everywhere else.

Part of me wants to say he can't keep this up, but the degree to which he's succeeding tells me maybe he can. He seems to have found the perfect butter zone between patience and aggression. He isn't swinging at the first ball near the strike zone like he used to, but he's also not standing around taking good pitches.

He isn't gonna maintain this 50 HR pace, but at this point 25-30 wouldn't shock me at all. I think he may put up some glossy numbers this year.

This thread should have been over/under 60 Home Runs!

Over under on Altuve hitting 35 home runs this season?

    Repped.

Funny because he's actually on pace for about 50 home runs which is insane.

I just posed a question if he'll hit 35 which given his current rate could be possible. 1/5 of a season and he has 9 home runs. If Altuve starts hitting 30 home runs on top of batting .300 wow

He won't reach all, or maybe not any, of these marks, but here' his projected numbers for the year:

    150 R (86 career-best)
    221 H (225)
    67 2B (47)
    36 HR (15)
    103 RBI (66)
    95 BB (40)
    79 K (85)
    59 SB (56)
    4 CS (9)

By my count, he's also on pace to put up the best WAR by a 2B since Rogers Hornsby in 1924 (or the best of all time, depending on if/how you want to adjust for the DH and 162 game schedule).

That would have to be considered one of, if not the best offensive season ever.

Just thought about it but when Altuve hit's free agency he is going to command at least $150,000,000... Can we afford him + Correa + K + god else who knows.

Can these Astros pony up the dollars like the big teams?

FA is a long way away and a lot can change between now and then. He might command $150MM or $300MM or $20MM. Just look at what Keuchel would have gotten 6 months ago if he as a FA vs what he'd get in a year or two if he continues at his current pace.

Yeah I hear you. I thought he was keeping the seat warm for when Delino DeShields was ready to take over at 2nd base.

The walk pace just blows me away. I'm curious what he did this past offseason. It must have been some kind of strike recognition boot camp or something.

Pretty much every single regular has improved their walk rate. I don't think this is just a random occurrence.

Or he just matured and learned and is in his prime for the next 5+ years?

He does have a smaller strike zone.

By the rule book it's supposed to be the same size strike zone for all players.

    .325/.403/.553

    26 walks/22 k's in 52 games

65 walk pace if he plays 154 games which is how many games he played last year.
