My point was that I'd still take him over Francis, regardless of "18", or "unproven."

I was not just merely pointing out that he was "18 and unproven"

    DONE

getting an athletic player with a brain straight up for steve would be a good deal. take kirilenko.

Rudy and the whole organization have created this SteveMonster with their nonstop babying of him. Now it's too late, he's rotten.

Rotten or not, Steve will continue to put up big numbers so you're better off holding on this trade. Utah will probably suck, but there is a big difference between a top 3 pick and a top 13 pick. And, you can definitely get more for him, imo.

Man, this trade is a steal for us. Utah must be stupid to trade their future for Francis. The mormons will pluck their facial hair off one by one watching Francis play.

actually if we were really sure Utah was going to be getting the first pick then sure I would do that trade. I would also hope we were getting a super star rookie as well. I don't hate steve francis. Hate is such a strong word.... I just don't have him locked on the list of players on this team that i wouldn't trade.

Heh yeah probably for anyone they can get.. why would anyone trade an ultimate superstar that could bring them to winning a championship for a guy that may be of half their calibre.. hell of a risk

I would trade Steve though I don't see myself as a Steve-Hater. I think you could get more for him than that though.

It is. Rocket Forum talk continued after Elie went to the Spurs, Bull to Charlotte and Dream to Toronto. I'm not sure where the Francis Forum is located but I'd tell you if I knew.

    A-Train,

Hate is such a strong word, a young man from afghanistan now lives with my parents, his family was killed in front of him by the Taliban, he hates the Taliban.

the trade is pile of crap, you obviously have no idea yourself, let alone an idea on what i think!!!!

Smeggy, I agree. I have never understood why the word, "hate" is used so freely here. I don't "hate" Francis, I don't even know him. I am frustrated with his game. I am of the opinion that his undisciplined, playground style of play greatly limits his contribution to the team. His attitude and demeanor strike me as a bit "whiney," arrogant, and "thuggish." In reality, he might be the sweetest, kindest, friendliest player on the team. Who knows. As a fan, I just don't feel a connection to him like I did with Hakeem or as I do now with David Carr of the Texans. That is especially disappointing to me, because I want to be 100% positive about the Rockets. Dislike, sort of. Disappointed, yes. Hate, no. Maybe all Francis needs is more structure, direction, and a better PR firm.

I would not do it, because I think that we could get more for him. The guy has put up big numbers while we have been losing, and is a marketers wewt dream. On the other hand, depending on who that draft pick turned into, I would say we have a pretty good chance of coming out on top in that trade. Kirilenko is a good on ball defender IIRC, and he can get you 2 blocks per game. It is hard to judge his value because he was splitting time with Matt Harpring (who played out of his mind last year somehow), but he still scored 12 and grabbed 5 boards and blocked 2 shots per. He shot for a pretty good percentage, and he has 3 pt range (very important with Ming drawing double teams, and something Adrian Griffin just will not give us). He is a reliable free throw shooter as well. I don't follow college ball so I don't know who we would be looking at getting with the pick.

Ultimately, I think Steve is certainly better than AK47, Keon Clark has never impressed me, and any draft pick is a gamble. I do think that the trade is hardly the laugher that you seem to think it is though.

Well I'd be opposed to this trade regardless, but I'm really interested in seeing how good AK47 and Harpring are now that Stockton and Malone are gone. There is a long list of players that looked like pretty great third options in Utah over their tenure. A whole lot of them who left for pretty big free agent deals and then never panned out. Those guys leave you a lot of room to look good.
