I know this was addressed some time ago. I don't feel like going back and looking for it. I'm just too lazy for that kind of effort.

Wow...I expected at least one reply. Does no one actually know when Yao is due back in Houston for training camp?

Is it sad that I have to reply to my own question?

I read somewhere said he will be back on Oct 5 or Oct 6. But I expect he will be back earlier than that since the asian championships will be end on Oct first.

A Chinese newspaper said he will get back To Houston immediatly after the Asian games. By immediatly, my impression is that within 1-2 days, that makes it either Oct 2 or Oct 3.

FYI, all other players on the Rockets with 3 years or less NBA experience were due into training camp TODAY!!! 09/29 so we can start keeping tabs now on how late Yao is.

Vets are due in later this week.

He will be back a little later then that he has something to do in LA before he gets back here and Im not giving a exact date so there wont be a crowd at the airport waiting for him.

    I dont believe that.

He is more than aware that every day he misses training camp, he is falling further behind.

He should be as loyal to the Rockets as he is to the NT...he should get back to Houston as fast as he can...there is NO business in LA that is more important than getting to training camp.

I am not sure what you meant. How could a guy playing basketball constantly - more than any other players in the camp - be falling, not to mention falling further? If Yao missed half of the training camp or if he was like last year, then it would be OK to say he would be behind in terms of team play. No way he will be behind if he misses only a few days of the camp, especially the core players won't be at the camp till Friday. At that time, Yao will be on his way back to Houston too.

it'll probably be a media circus once it's reported that he's back. hopefully lebron will take away some of the media exposure. if the kid could just play without so much notoriety i think he'd be so much better.

Yao just said on his BBS that the date (he comes to Houston/US) has not yet confirmed.

Not if you believe the self-proclaimed YM expert oj411.

He insinuates that Yao will stop in LA for a day or so to take care of some un-named business.
If that is true (which I doubt),
Why risk missing more of camp than he already is to do that?

The new coach has a new system to introduce to him, and even missing two or three days will put him behind the rest of the pack in learning the NEW TEAM'S SYSTEM.

I am not saying that he is behind in basketball ability, no , not even a little.
But there is lots of new stuff for him to get used to doing, and he needs every day he can get with the team and coaches to get up to speed in time for the season.

I'm more ready than most here to accept excuses for a slow start to the season, but in this case, I am not.
If the Asian Championships are over on the 1st(as has been reported) then he needs to go home, get his stuff and get on the first plane to Houston...no excuses...no distractions...no commercials...no contract signing...no personal appearances..
thats why he has a management team....

Get Your Butt To Houston ASAP Yao...

NBA training camps are very short. each day is very precious. it ends this sunday or monday evening I believe. If he's not back by Saturday he will have missed half of training camp. Yao will by behind again this year theres not denying that but how much he falls behind is up to him and how fast he can get down here to galveston.

    Stoke,

    two or three days?

Doesnt camp last thru the pre-season?
It's not like they are playing 4-5 games a week during the pre-season. they still have plenty of time for training thru this month.

I am definiteley advocating Yao get here ASAP, but he is going to have all month to get ready to play within VG's system.

you know what i just looked at the preseason schedule and you're right. there is a lot of time off in between preseason games I think theres five days off in between their second road preseason game and their first home game so thats good. But the truth is I hope Yao makes it here by Friday because I think it'd be cool for him to get a taste of galveston island. I doubt he even knows it exists. it would be cool to run into him at cafe michael burger for lunch or something like that while I'm down here.

Texas Stoke, knowing how much Yao likes hamburgers, there's a chance you may run into him. Make sure to keep a digital camera handy, just in case - and report it here! :)

How do we practice a center oriented offence when our center isn't there?
