It's hard to imagine Kenny Smith being able to give Harden crap for playing bad defense.

Byron Scott was actually a good coach. He did well with those New Orleans teams. He is just not made to develop young talent

Thank you (props coming your way). I read the entire thread looking for someone to bust Kenny's chops for his defense as a player, and no one really did until you. I love Kenny. Hell, I love all the players that helped bring us 2 championships. But Kenny and defense? Oil and water, as far as I'm concerned. He would have to hire a great assistant to handle the defense. James Harden is a better defender now than Kenny was back in the day. Yes, Kenny's intriguing, but more because of his Rocket history than his "resume" as a head coach.

Whoever we get, I hope they take a hard look at Shane Battier as an assistant. That cat knows defense.

Right on. Barrier would be so sweet as an assistant. Mr. Fundamental, cut from the same cloth as those coached under Pop in SA

What a terrific idea! We get a figurehead coach who can give this team direction and leadership and hire assistants who can coach defense and offense.
Why didn't they think of doing this before???

Very interesting read he has to be in their top ten. What have the Rockets said about other candidates.

Well you did not read my response on page 8 when i ripped him for no defense and driving to the lane with his eyes closed. Just because the jerk is on TV for the last 10 years and breaks down film does not make him the next great coach.

If this is the case, I really hope Les can sell this team.

My bad. Must have missed it. It happens scrolling through a couple of hundred posts. I don't view Kenny as a "jerk," however. Heck, he could turn out to be an effective coach. He wasn't on my personal radar screen, certainly not with the Rockets hoping for a dramatic turnaround with their defensive play. As everyone and their uncle knows, they really need improvement in the area. Kenny did see some incredibly good defense, of course, both in the post and on the perimeter. It just wasn't something he was personally good at. Kenny played an important role in our two championships and was a tremendous shooter. We sure could have used prime Kenny Smith the last couple of seasons.

Or we quit the team. Even in TNT, the Smith guy is no.3 or 4 person. Harden is not going to respect a soft guy without personality.

Kenny was asked about the interview at the end; played it pretty cool about how much he wants the job.
