Either that, or what badlee said was true, and we're really just interviewing potential assistants for JVG. Vogel would have no interest in that since he will have his own team next year, most likely.

We need to stay out of the autocratic coaching assistant biz

I don't know. Some of the people they've interviewed don't strike me as the type willing to accept an assistant coaching gig. Hornacek had a very good first season with Phoenix and came extremely close to winning the Coach of the Year award over Popovich. No way will he not be looking for another head coaching job.

Same with Blatt. Just because he was unceremoniously dumped by the Cavs doesn't mean he doesn't have an impressive resume. He took them to the Finals last year and was up 2-1 over the Warriors with LeBron and a bunch of role players. He's not gonna be anyone's assistant.

I still maintain there's too much uncertainty with this roster and that this past season did serious damage to the reputation of the Rockets organization. I mean, you had Chuck and Kenny doing an intervention with Dwight on live TV the other night for chrissakes. Sure, some of that stemmed from his entire career up until now, but a lot of it was due to how dreadful the Rockets were in 2015-16.

From all the articles it just seems he was taken aback by letting go (he was very attached to Indi), and is not yet ready to interview. It seems like it was a long time ago but he was just got let go like a week and a half ago. The guess is while we wait for him to get over it and focus again, we're interviewing other candidates just as due diligence. I doubt he has said no to us (could be wrong).

The rockets are waiting for the Durant decision first after his playoff run, then pick up the coach with the Durant approval.

Not true.....that is why they are including James Harden in the process. He is representing Durant's side. He knows what Durant wants as they are best friends and talk almost daily

    This.

James Harden needs a tough coach badly.

Yeah, can't see JVG emerging from his basement after 10+ years only to have Les/Morey hire his coaching staff -- especially not after the joke of a season they just had. If Jeff returns, it'll be under his terms, not Les/Morey's.

Wouldn't be surprised if JVG is waiting on Dwight to officially opt-in or opt-out. He hasn't publicly withdrawn his name from consideration. He also hasn't agreed to interview for other vacancies. Which can either mean he's only interested in returning to Houston, or he's not interested in coaching at all.

Whatever the case may be, I sure hope Dwight isn't holding up the hiring process.

he also has a track-record of hiring some of the best coaches in the biz. His coaching staff in Houston the first go-around was excellent!

I actually hope we don't get JVG. He's a good defensive coach but knows absolutely nothing about high paced offense. The only reason ppl want him is because he's funny on TV. I'm old enough to remember all the old washed up Knicks he brought in because he didn't trust any of the young players. He also ran our superstars in the ground, I remember him almost NEVER resting Tmac or Yao (even in blow outs). JVG will eventually run Harden out of town and we'll end up the worst offensive team in the league. No thanks

people learn from their mistakes and evolve. Also, JVG is more than just a funny commentator on TV. Take a look at his coaching record and success. He's an excellent coach.

On hoopshype Gary Woelfel indicated that Van Gundy is still a finalist for Rockets job and may indeed by the frontrunner....

The Rockets are going to interview JVG last. There is nothing they don't know about him. But you can't interview him and NOT hire him. It's an insult to a brilliant analyst and obvious Rockets homer. My guess is they will interview Vogel first, and if we don't choose him (or vice versa) we move on to JVG.
