He can be unbelievably good and have a killer chain of plays, but Jonas Valanciunas has been tearing him up in the Toronto/Heat series. The commentators caught it, fantastic help defender but one on one defender he's a little slow with his feet.

Sign Kevin Seraphin for the backup center.

Whiteside definitely overrated rim protector, but not as much as Dwight.

As a hardcore fantasy follower of Gobert, that guy is extremely matchup dependent. He destroys certain teams and their big men, but he is also a huge negative against some of the quicker centers in the league. That guy is hit and miss like crazy, and a lot of his huge games defensively had large amounts of garbage time.

Whiteside doesn't seem very bright saying that with free agency on the way

when you see names on this list , Ezili/Bogut for instance , you know this a reflection of their team's system rather than individuals performance

Really don't think it will have much of an effect on his FA, unless it's something catastrophic. Wes Matthews got a huge deal coming off a torn achilles, which is likely much worse than whatever Whiteside has. Either way, it doesn't look good for him coming back this season. Too bad, as I would've really liked to see this vintage Wade against LeBron next round.

Ezili and Bogut are at the bottom of the list already they are worse rim protectors than Marvin freakin' Williams. Are you saying they are amazing rim protectors and the GSW system makes them bad defenders?

As for Whiteside you don't get the guy because he's a super athletic defender, that's great for a couple of years but year 3+ he will start breaking down as we can see with Dwight, he looks ancient out there and he's only 30! For Cs you really want players like Gobert or Marc Gasol, players who you know have the heft to bang at the C spot and don't really rely on their athleticism so even if they start moving in slow mo they will still be effective. He's also not right in the head, which is why the ROx should stay away from him, he has a chance of waking up one day and pulling the same stunt that other dude in Milwaukee did.

i'm a causal NBA fan ,am not familiar with half of these names on this list. but i know when Rudy on the top and Whiteside on the bottom and Nick Collison in the middle , something must be wrong .

the athleticism reliance talk is legit though

are you saying Ezeli and Bogut are at the bottom or not?

They are near the top if those guys can clean their glasses

That's why you're a casual fan. Gobert is a fantastic rim protector. Whiteside is just good, but really overrated. Bogut has been a very good defender al his career. Ezeli also knows how to contest shots. All of the guys on that list are at the very least good at protecting the rim.
