Did you know that Kevin Garnett will make more money this year than Tim Duncan, Yao Ming, Ben Wallace, Karl Malone, and Gary Payon combined. No joke.

Another one. Did you know that Kevin Garnett will make more money this year than the entire Utah Jazz team.

No. A 5% raise from the base of this current year's contract, then a 12.5% annual raise (not compounded).

    Not exactly...

    From the FAQ's:
..."there is a minimum team salary, which is defined as 75% of the salary cap. Any team that doesn't spend at least that much is surcharged at the end of the season, and that money is given to the players..."

On a cap of $42m, 75% is about $31.5m. Garnett does not make that much.

I wonder if it will be enough to finally get him out of the first round.

Loaded or not, either LA, Sac, SA, Dall, or Minn will get bumped in the first round and I don't see the Pups beating any of those teams.

They probably feel better about it considering that McHale managed to squirm his way out of those sanctions with a pretty decent roster.

If they stay healthy, I could see Minn knocking off Dallas or Sac. Not the other 2 though.

Actually, 2 of the above will get knocked out of the first round because THE ROCKETS ARE GOING TO THE SECOND ROUND.

Personally, I think Minnesota is going to slash his salary big time...

They put out a press release saying that they offered him a contract extension. Why make contract negotiations public? My guess is that they're slashing his pay by probably 40-50%. if Garnett rejects it, the dollar amount will get "leaked" to the press, making him out to be the greedy, overpaid superstar. This gives management the upper hand. They're putting all the pressure on Garnett. He knows that there is no way he'll get anything close to what he's making next year from any team, so it's either accept or test the free agent market.

His only barganing tactic is that Minnesota has never gotten any help for him. Well, now the T-Wolves can counter by saying that they picked up Cassell, Sprewell, and Olowokandi.

Also, how many teams have the cap room to sign him for what he'll want next year? Maybe 2 or 3, so his options are limited on that front as well...

This should be interesting to watch...

Living in Minnesota, I've found that the natives are ok with his contract. That being said don't expect him to make the same type of money following this year. Garnett is on record as saying that he'd be willing to receive less money to put a winning team on the court. He acknowledged the constraints that his current contract has placed on the team for the last several years. I expect him to resign with the Wolves. He's beloved by the community. He is almost on Kirby Puckett's level before his downfall.

For those unfamiliar with the term, "miney" is the currency used in Minnesota. ;)

Seriously, I do think he will stay. Minnesota fans really know how to support their super stars.
