    From today's Tennessean:

    Dixie Chicks resume controversial stance

The Dixie Chicks: They're mad, they're not going to take it anymore, and at least one of them is pretty danged funny. Embroiled in another controversy — Chick Martie Maguire told a German news magazine the trio wanted to leave country music for rock — singer Natalie Maines let loose with a post on their Web site (dixiechicks.launch.yahoo.com). In a few pointed, sarcasm-drenched paragraphs, Maines fired back at her critics on music, politics, their recent plane mishap, Maguire's comments and other Chick-associated subjects. Here's the full text of her acerbic letter:

    Dear Reader:

I am taking the time out of my very busy rock and roll life to write you this letter. As I am sure you can understand, being me is a full time job. I can't just drop everything every three days because someone needs a quote or statement about a quote or statement we may or may not have said. It's just draining me of time and effort I need to put toward other things.

For one, I as a taxpayer have to get busy earning money to help pay off the latest $87 billion addition to the national debt!

Also, I have a huge list of phone calls to return. I'll list a few just so you get the idea.

Message 1: Saddam Hussein called and wants to know where his weapons of mass destruction are. Listen Saddam, I already told you, I don't know. You're going to have to call the White House on that one.

Message 2: Country radio called and wants to know if it's true that you're leaving country music? This one must be a prank call. I mean, how can you leave a party now when the hosts had shown you to the door six months ago.

Message 3: Sheryl Crow and Lenny Kravitz called to see if you could come to their party Friday night. Oh that one's easy. I can't, I'm already going to Ashton and Demi's party.

Message 4: G. Gordon Liddy, Rush Limbaugh, and Don Imus all called again to ask about the plane crash. Listen guys this is really getting old. I'm sorry, but no we did not die in a plane crash. But look on the bright side … we fly all the time.

Message 5: Arnold Schwarzenegger called to see if we wanted to ''verk out'' with him at ''zee gym'' next week. Hmmm that's both weird and scary. He must not have heard what Emily ''said'' about him or know that we're married!

See, can you understand now why I don't have time to constantly defend my partners and myself?

Oh speaking of partners, Martie did want me to clear up two things that she absolutely did not say in any shape, form or fashion.

She wants it to be known that she never complained about not winning any ACM awards. I told her nobody who has ever seen what an ACM award looks like is going to believe she said any such thing. But nevertheless she wanted to clear that up.

The second thing was that she never said we were a part of the ''rock and roll family'' now. I once again told her I didn't think it was necessary to clear that up. I mean, as of yet, I wasn't aware we had made a rock album. As a matter of fact, I think I recall our last album being bluegrass.

So there you have it. Do with it what you will.

You know, a good thing that has come out of all this is having a good support system from the music industry to call on for advice. Most recently I called up Ozzy to ask him what I should do about all of this, and do you know what he told me?

Oh hang on just a second, you won't believe this … P. Diddy and Eminem just instant messaged me at the exact same time. I didn't even know that was possible. Let me just IM them back that I will have to talk to them later. O.K. sorry about that.

Now where was I? Oh right Ozzy. Do you know what he told me to do? Well, I don't really know either. I couldn't really understand him.

But he did say something at the end that was very profound. He said ''f... it.'' I like that advice. I think I'll do just that. So from here on out when you call for a statement, explanation, apology, etc., we are just going to have to refer you to this letter.

Oh, and by the way, since you're here on our website you might as well go buy a T-shirt. We are having a plane crash sale. Everything is double.

Oh, I have to go. Keith and Mick are in the limo waiting for me. The five of us have started getting together every Tuesday night. I must tell you, Keith is really getting into his fiddle lessons with Martie. He can already play Faded Love. And Mick, well he gets faster at Dueling Banjos with Emily every week. I think they are really going to blow everyone away at the rock and roll family reunion next week.

But, it's not just about them learning from us. Nope, they help me every week think up new controversial ''rock and roll'' things to say. Thanks guys … you're the greatest!

    Love, Natalie

P.S. I will also be posting this in German so if you don't like what I really said you can just translate it into what suits your agenda.

I think people know what I think about this garbage. I guess Maines and the rest of the group already feel that their country careers are too far gone to be saved because if that is not the case, then this latest immature tantrum is career suicide, IMO.

As if what she said and the resulting controversy wasn't bad enough, she's going to go ahead and pour more gasoline on the fire with those inceindiary statements? I mean, Christ, she just about came out and said that conservative talk radio was about to have a party if they would've died in a plane crash. That is ridiculous. What fools these ladies are! Do they realistically think they will get any airplay on rock stations? C'mon, give me a break. They just committed career suicide. Why was it so neccessary for her to tell an audience how she felt? Why not just keep it to yourself rather than trying to curry favor? Now she has just hammered a couple more nails in the coffin.

Actually, I never listened, let alone bought any Dixie Chick's CD in the past. After their stance on the Iraq War, I bought a couple. They're pretty darned talented! Thanks Dubya for opening my eyes & ears to these beautiful gals.........

I don't know or care about the Dixie Chicks. They can say whatever they want, it doesn't alter my life in the slightest. Therefore, I can't get angry at or particularly excited about them in any way.

However, after reading that letter, I can say that that chick isn't bad at bitter sarcasm.

Okay, I don't know if that crack was directed at me or bama, but if it was me then I'll say this:

It was big news when Maines and company said what they said several months back. This story was on the front page of the Tennessean. This story was enough to cause my father, a Democractic voter, to rant about. Sorry if I thought it was a waste of time to put in this forum. I guess I should have checked with you before posting it. Please forgive me.

Okay, I hate to call someone out but I think it is necessary to get a point across.

    Timing,

You used to be the only person that I had on "ignore" and kept for more than a week. However, I have observed that not all your posts on this BBS are belligerent. This leads me to believe that you can actually be a nice guy on this board. Believe it or not, I think you are not that bad of a poster despite our run-ins. But when you play this role of the "oppressed minority" on the board to the point of it being like you have a chip on your shoulder, it destroys any credibility you have, I think, as a poster here. I don't know - maybe you want people to despise you here, but I do think that you are like everyone else in that you want your voice to be heard and that you want respect. If that was not the case, you would have been gone a long time ago because you would have been exposed as a troll. Obviously with 4500+ posts, you are not a troll, so there is a REASON for you posting on this BBS. Maybe it is to piss people off, but I really don't think that is the case.

I have mentioned this before but reading your posts, for the most part, helps me see the viewpoint from the minority side on many issues. The problem though, is that your message is heard but you feel that is NOT enough. You have to go place that chip on the shoulder and belittle others who don't have the same viewpoint as you. Guess what, Timing? That attitude, whether it is real or just made up for this BBS, causes people to write you off.

I am sorry that racism exists in this country. I am sorry that you feel that white people like myself get everything in this country without working for it. Let me tell you a little secret - nothing has been handed to me in my life. When I got out of grad school, the only job I could find was a bank job that paid less than 7 bucks an hour. I did that job for more than 2 years, progressing to loan officer and making less than $20,000 a year. Then I was unemployed for 3 months before getting my present job. When I got hired for that job, I was a temporary employee for SIX months! I had no benefits whatsoever. However, I get the impression from reading some of your more militant posts that just because I am white that I would have been handed that job. However, other than this post, I have never spent time here ranting and bemoaning that fact. I have been at that job for more than 3 years now and I am still one of the lower paid professional/salaried employees there; however, I feel that it is pointless to whine and complain about that.

Now, you might not even read all of this post or maybe you will read it but it will fall on deaf ears as your goal here is to piss people off. Who knows? However, at least one poster here, thought it was worth the time and effort to reach out to you. Maybe I take this board too seriously, but I want to continue to see viewpoints that are different from mine because it helps me learn. And you do a good job of that; I just think that you could get your points across even better but you got to remove that chip first, whether it is made up or real.

Manny, I thought you were not going to discuss personal matters on the BBS again...also, I am not sure if that post alone by Timing is sufficient cause for that rant?

There is apparently some more history there between you two, but perhaps you might want to reconsider if you want all the other weirdos on the board to know too much about your professional or financial situation - while I appreciate your openness, you never know when someone will try to take advantage of you, and even if it is only in a discussion, using some of the information you give out about yourself.

To say something positive (and slightly unrelated), while I also see a few "chip on their shoulder" posters here when it comes to that topic, there are also some people who belong to the same minority, but seem to have a more balanced and reasonable approach - Rocks Millennium or verse come to my mind, if I am not completely mistaken.

    Jackie,

I see your point but I decided to make an exception here. Completely agree with you on verse and RocksMillenium.

And believe me - when someone has called you a racist on this board, there is some history.

While I've never cared for the Dixie Chicks' music before, and I found their earlier comments rather tasteless, for some reason I enjoy this letter. Maybe it's because I appreciate a good sarcastic response to something rather than being upfront and confrontational about it. This just doesn't seem so serious to me.

Thanks for posting it Manny, I appreciated the laugh.

I dont really pay attention to entertainers' political stances, but I found this amusing as well.

I dont agree with everything the Chicks say, but I stand behind their rights to say what they want. Its a free country.

Someone's gotta watch the watchmen, right?

Manny you're such a drama queen. I don't have a role here other than to follow the rockets, have a few laughs, and discuss things from my point of view. I could care less about being popular or liked on this board and because there are so few minorities on this board I won't hesitate to challenge the ignorance of what's posted here on that topic. The fact is that when I present data and information on the topic there is little left to be said by posters on the other side other than to change the subject. Like I've said before, the first time any of them present any studies or data to back up their opinions will be the first time. Fortunately it's starting to become glaringly obvious why some people post in those threads and my ignore button is getting good use now. My posting will probably change as a result. In the end though I'm secure in who I am, who I love, and who loves me and whether people on a message board like me or not isn't very important. Believe it or not, a lot of people don't really care about the clique politics of this board.

    :D :D

This is absolutely priceless, I too unintentionally became involved some wierd blood feud, the details of which I am unsure of, with Manny Ramirez by telling him "I don't give a rat's ass" and apparently not comprehending the nuances of boardpolitik .

    Sam,

I was arguing with Timing long before Splinter Cell was even daydreamed about.

But I am glad that my presence means that much to you. I see that my schemes with you are working. Can't wait to tell "The Boss"!:D

Well, you know, the spotlight has dimmed a little bit lately, and they like it. I guess there's no such thing as bad publicity.

I don't really listen to Dixie Chicks music but I'm becoming a bigger fan by the minute. That letter was hilarious. Why can't she lash out when people are lashing out against her and her bandmates? For all the fans she's losing, she's gonna get more back two fold with stuff like this.

    Hilarious!
I dont, and never have listened to the Chicks...and probably never will.
but I gotta respect a great sarcastic response, good stuff!

oh, and by the way bama...career suicide? Doubtful..they may not get played on mainstreeam country radio, but that is hardly career threatening. Plenty of good bands make it just fine without radio play.

Rock on Chicks...and thanks for posting it Manny, I would never have read it unless someone posted it here.
