Good. We need to spend that money elsewhere. And he would fit perfectly in Dallas. Cuban seems obsessed with delaying as long as possible the inevitable rebuild the Mavs need to go through. Signing a declining Dwight Howard fits his MO.
The Rockets have bigger concerns that the Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki will be 38 years old, Howard is a shell of himself at 31, same with Wesley Matthews (30). The Mavericks are extremely well coached and they have some players that always play hard, but they are not a real threat in the West.
People act like this wouldn't be a big deal. Dwight is still a top 5 center in the league. That move would fill the biggest hole the Mavs have. I don't think Dirk can carry a team to the finals anymore (I could be wrong), but that team will be getting better and they already had the 6 seed ahead of us. If they could get a REAL playmaking pg as well (HUGE IF), they'd be pretty dang good. All-Star Pg Wes Matthews Parsons Dirk Dwight Tons of shooting, alley-oop becomes an option, multiple guys that can get their own shot. I don't see our roster being better next year...
They don't have an all star point guard, and unless they sign Conley; they won't be getting an all star point guard. Wesley Matthews is a shell of what he was and at 30, is unlikely to rebound. Chandler Parsons is likely to bounce back offensively, but he is a terrible defender. One of the absolute worst in the NBA. Dirk Nowitzki is going to be 38. Dwight Howard is on the wrong side of 30 and is physically breaking down, he has taken a major step back each of the last 4 seasons.
No, they're not. They only finished 42-40 in the West. Any other year, and they would've been in the lottery(same goes for us, BTW). Yes, injuries played a role and Dwight would certainly help them somewhat, but this would be a really foolish signing by the Mavs. Their best case scenario with their current roster plus Dwight would be around 50 wins which is not even close to title contention.
Fetus Ezeli is a free agent, Bogut has one more year on his deal, if Dwight has any common sense he'd take his weak ass to Oakland instead of trying to stick it to the Rockets by going to Dallas. Dallas will always be third best in the Texas triangle. We were the eighth seed and got more respect than Dallas, not saying much but still.
Williams Matthews Anderson (Parsons won't start the season) Lee (if Jim Carey is serious about winning and not pandering Dirk should come off the bench) Dwight Ain't nobody skuured
Are we supposed to be hurt by this comment? It will be funny to hear the Houston crowd cheer Dwight for being a classy guy and still boo Portions for being a d-bag. Actually my concern is that Dwight gets scared that he won't get a max deal and opts in for another year.
Yeah, cool, except that they'll have something like 60/70 millions only on Dwight, CP, Matthews and a couple of scubs from the bench. If Dirk is ok with the vet min than yeah, they can look for a pg, not sure who though, maybe Rondo  And btw add the hacking chance for the opponent if they sign Dwight, Carlisle can always take him out and play Dirk at center
Dwight just isn't worth his contract anymore. Not even close. That money would be much better spent in other ways to help the team.
Howard playing for a real coach could be very scary. They might use him like they did with Tyson Chandler. Defense, defense and dunks, dunks ....
Houston has been team #3 of Texas since 1999. Dallas has since won a championship and made the Finals twice. Have won over 60 games 3 times including 67 games. Over 50 wins 12 times including 11 seasons in a row. The Rockets have never won 60 games in their existence and have only won over 50, 6 times since 99. Winning 3 playoff rounds in 19 years. Get over yourself and realize were not a good franchise. Without Hakeem, we'd be a bottom 5 franchise in NBA history.
I hope Parsons and Dwight both signs the max on the mavs, it'll be more satisfying beating them in the playoffs.
It's not about how Dwight's used. It's whether or not he can still do the things he used to do. Tyson Chandler last season still had a decent amount of athleticism left. Dwight's looked like a shell of his former self this year. And I don't think another season of wear and tear is gonna help matters. I'm not saying he won't improve the Mavs. But he won't make them contenders. He won't even make them Top 4 in the West. I'd rather take that money and spend it elsewhere.
Cuban is not afraid of paying the Lux tax and I am sure Carlisle could get a lot more out of Dwight than our broken org. DD
