There's not a single ex-player that didn't absolutely love JVG... they were willing to go to war for him each/every night.

That goes a long way in determining why certain coaches could always get a job, regardless of the era. Also goes a long way to ensuring players always try and give max effort... regardless of their star status or talent level.

So Thibs is going to Minny, Brooks about to be locked up by the Wizzards and JVG wants to come back? Sounds like a plan to me.

I think JVG is still such a student of the game that he will be a better coach this time around. I think he has more perspective and has taken an honest look at how he did things before and sees the flaws and the strengths. My only concern is that he isn't tough enough on Harden but I actually believe Les is so sick of the current Rockets team (including Harden) that JVG will get a green light to tear into that ass if his superstar keeps napping on the court.

Has JVG coached without Thibs? If not, then are we sure that stout defense will still be there with JVG not having Thibs?

Its based on effort... which is based on motivation.

Studying under Riley gives you the necessary tools to become master motivators. Pretty sure JVG didn't forget how to coach without Thibs.

yes, in 1996 when JVG was first hired as a head coach for the Knicks after Don Nelson got fired mid-season. Thibs was still at the Philly at the time.

In the remaining 23 games of the season, the Knicks gave away on average just 92.6 ppg to the opponents, compared to 94.9 for the whole season. That means it was higher than 94.9 during the Don Nelson era.

On top of that, Tom Thibodeau is regarded as one of many disciples of JVG, so I think the stout defensive system is really JVG's brainchild.

I voted no not so much as I wouldn't want him back but more so that I would rather leave him on tv. He may be the only announcer I genuinely like.

If he wants to coach again though, sure, bring him back.

I'm sure most of what Thibs learned was under the guidance of JVG by working with him for so long.

It's gonna be like the Steve Francis situation again.

They're gonna try JVG-Harden and when that fails they'll trade Harden for the best guy available.

    95-96 Knicks

With Done Nelson as HC : the opponents scored more than 95 ppg

With JVG as HC : the opponents scored just 92.6 ppg

    No Thibs at the time.

Everything seems to be lining up for JVG to return. Everything except for that post by that Cyberx guy. It seems very possible that JVG may hold a grudge against Les. But, lots of money could maybe fix that problem. JVG still lives in Houston, so that has to help the Rockets chances a little bit.

If we hear that JVG is meeting with the Rockets, then I think he will probably return. I liked JVG when he was here before, although I don't think he's much different than McHale in many ways. But, he would be a new voice that Harden might listen to for a couple of years.

I would be interested to see who JVG would want as his assistants. I would like to see all the current assistants gone.

Would imagine Andy Greer comes with him. Other than that, most of his proteges are HCs now.
