Reed isn't quite dominating at AAA though, so let's just let him develop and we'll call him up when he's ready.
He's had 42 PAs in AA so far. For comparison, Carlos Correa had 133 before they moved him to AAA. I think it's fair to conclude that Bregman's going to be in AAA soon if he continues to mash for the next month. If he comes back down to earth, oh well. Right now, this is fun.
I don't expect White to stay this hot. In fact, he's already cooled a bit. Tucker has cooled even more. White's defense has been ok... But if Reed is better, I'll take it. Strange that they haven't had to face a lefty yet.
To be fair, Carlos had extra AA time due to his broken leg. Chances are, he would have started last year at AAA had he never gotten hurt. Bregman is so far dominating AA at a similar rate as to what Correa was doing last year. If it is ultimately inferior competition to him, he should be moved up. Also have to keep in mind that he's an advanced college player. He doesn't necessarily need to be held to the same timetable as the teenagers.
I realize it's still VERY early in the season, but it's not hard to imagine Bregman keeping up his hot start. I think we can all agree he won't continue this torrid HR pace he is on right now, but he's looking like a very very solid SS prospect. So what are the odds that when he comes up we move Correa to 3rd and Bregman comes up at SS? Or would they switch Bregman to 3rd?
Yeah that would make more sense. I like the idea of a future Bregman, Rasmus, Springer OF to go with a future infield of Moran, Correa, Altuve and White/Reed
Bregman to 3rd can probably work as well. I just don't see the Astros trying to move Correa from SS and risk chasing him off when he becomes a FA.
I still think Bregman should stay in the minors, he looked overmatched in ST. Now, Moran looked very good as did Reed and White.
100% agree with this. Even though he's had a ridiculously fast start in AA, I would be surprised to see him earlier than a potential September Call-Up (unless he just keeps raking and forces Luhnow and Co's hand). I wouldn't be surprised though to see Reed or Moran in Houston by July
It will be based on need. If they need another OFer, he's a candidate. If somebody on the left side of the infield gets hurt, he's an option (or even if Altuve gets hurt). Whenever he gets called up will fit within the natural needs and expectations of the big league roster.
This team will eventually need some help against LHP, particularly at 3B where Valbuena, Marwin, & Moran are all substantially better against RHP than LHP. I think Valbuena is going get dealt midseason.
