Obviously, there are some networks clearly geared towards one end of the political spectrum. Even FOX is just about ratings. They built the conservative network because there was a market for it -- all the people who hate the "liberal media bias". It's obviously worked as they have very good ratings. I don't think they are conversatively-biased just for the sake of it - it's because no one else fills that void and they've created a large niche market as a result. It's still pure economics.
The political party zombies do not want to understand anything other than towing the party line. First America hating and now the spin of the day, 'Bush hating'? Assuming you're not into conspiracy theories or born in another galaxy, Bush was elected president of this country by Democrats, Republicans and other people who love our country.
if conservatives have been so successful at silencing dissent, why are you still posting such ill-informed drivel on this board?
Speaking figuratively and alluding, you know. But I don't believe the point of this thread was to list whoever you feel is an America hater and why, though it's a little cryptic.
Interesting comments from members of Congress recently returned from Iraq: http://www.thehill.com/news/092303/press.aspx Journalists are giving a slanted and unduly negative account of events in Iraq, a bipartisan congressional group that has just returned from a three-day House Armed Services Committee visit to assess stabilization efforts and the condition of U.S. troops said. Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Mo.), the committee’s ranking member, said, “The media stresses the wounds, the injuries, and the deaths, as they should, but for instance in Northern Iraq, Gen. [Dave] Petraeus has 3,100 projects — from soccer fields to schools to refineries — all good stuff and that isn’t being reported.” http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/...l?urac=n&urvf=10642377116960.8839345774896111 "Our currently stated objectives are to establish reasonable security and foster the creation of a secular, representative government with a stable market economy that provides broad opportunity throughout Iraqi society. Attaining these objectives in Iraq would inevitably transform the Arab world and immeasurably increase our future national security. These are goals worthy of a fight, of sacrifice, of more lives lost now to save thousands, perhaps tens or hundreds of thousands in the future. In Mosul last Monday, a colonel in the 101st Airborne put it to me quite simply: "Sir, this is worth doing." No one I spoke with said anything different. And I spoke with all ranks. But there will be more Blumbergs killed in action, many more. So it is worth doing only if we have a reasonable chance of success. And we do, but I'm afraid the news media are hurting our chances. They are dwelling upon the mistakes, the ambushes, the soldiers killed, the wounded, the Blumbergs. Fair enough. But it is not balancing this bad news with "the rest of the story," the progress made daily, the good news. The falsely bleak picture weakens our national resolve, discourages Iraqi cooperation and emboldens our enemy." Rep. Jim Marshall (D-Ga)
i don't think you can chalk the media's ignoring of these stories up to anything other than an anti-bush bias. Representative Marshall's comments were reported (he was interviewed) on Brit Hume's show last night, but there was no mention made of them when i watched the News Hour immediately afterwards.
While I appreciate being talked down to as if I do not understand business, I disagree with your conclusion that the coverage hasn't swung to the liberal side post-Iraq. The reporters and stories have been selected to cast a light that is intentionally non-flattering as to what is going on over there. It is more than just people dying that I am talking about. The media has painted a picture that there is "another Vietnam", a "quagmire" and an "unplanned disaster". All of these things are incredibly short-sighted and I feel that in time will prove to be horribly inaccurate. Is there a coincidence that all this spin is occurring at a time when the election is coming up? I doubt it.
I would argue that all networks EVEN FOX are more concerned about generating ad revenue by boosting ratings than they are about portraying one end of the political spectrum. True, FOX may be a little one sided, but their motives are high ratings first and foremost. Just like any other network.
Incredibly short-sighted? Unfortunately, this phrase implies a greater degree of analysis than most mainstream news reporting possesses. Fact-based programs have almost no duty to represent the long-term potential repercussions of facts. Rather, the viewer should draw his own conclusion. Most of the facts that are coming into evidence right now aren't very beneficial to Bush. But, then, he benefited from the "positive" fact-reporting that occurred as well - such as the removal of Saddam from power. In any war, most of the coverage is likely to be negative (with a free press...) because most of what happens in war is bad. In this war, it's becoming particularly problematic because there's no end in sight and operations probably haven't been quite as successful as some would have hoped. In the sense that they're reporting mainly what's happening, and it's bad inherently - yes, it's short-sighted. But that's what news is. At worst, the media likes to have "themes." A year ago, the primary themes benefited Bush. Now, they tend to be focused more on the specifics of what's happening in Iraq. Big deal. Analysis is something else entirely. And you see plenty of conservates represented in the talkshows arguing that the results of the war will bring long-term positive results.
you are correct but this thread is SEVERELY derailed I guess I should have said what do you consider UNAMERICAN BAHAVIOR Rocket River working on clarity
This is America-hating This is NOT America-hating, it is one of the most American things one can do...
I practice hating america everytime I walk my dog. When I was a kid, America used to bully me at school. Now I write nasty letters about how much I hate America and put it under America's pillow while America is sleeping. On really bad days I hate America by clipping my fingernails. I really cannot fathom how some people can be so stupid.
Oh go open a bottle of Bordeaux. Then you'll really hate America. Maynard that was beautiful! SJC rimmy is sarcastic truth... Hating America is telling me how to live my life or prying into my computer.
