As opposed to a post by a blind Flipphile?

I'm not saying that Flip hasn't done good job, but so has Rudy. In a frontcourt heavy conference, a team w/o a reliable defensive frontcourt presence should not be contending for a playoff spot. But we are. Go Rudy.

    Rudy - 2 championships
Flip - Never gotten past the first round

I wouldn't dream of comparing these two, they aren't even in the same league.

OK JR this is just for you,

Spurs starting line up in 95:
    Avery Johnson
    Vinnie Del Negro
    Sean Elliot
    Dennis Rodman
    David Robinson (League MVP)

Spurs starting line up in 99 (championship year):
    Avery Johnson
    Mario Ellie
    Sean Elliot
    Tim Duncan
David Robinson (a fraction of the player he was in his MVP year)

The fact that Rudy T could win with Scott Brooks playing such crucial minutes when according to you he had no tallent must be a testement to Rudy's coaching ability.

Now JR, heres a clue for you. If you're going to attack Rudy's coaching don't use his championship years as an example. It won't support your argument very well.

I find it hard to beleive that someone is going to consider Flip Saunders (a man that has accomplished nothing in this league) better than Rudy T (a man that has two League Championships under his belt when his team was not favored in either series).

Stop trying to compare Flip to the Great Rudy T!

You can go back to cheering for you're beloved T-Wolves now. Just remember Rudy T 2 and Flip 0 as in championships. Come on back though when your facts do a little better job of supporting your argument.

    Bye.

Rudy T. was the only coach I knew who took the team to Championship and won with no.6 seed coming to the play off! The man has talent in coaching a team. [IMG]

IMO Rudy does the most with the least
    I mean
    Without Rudy where would
Horry, elie, Chuckie, Cassel, CUttino, etc be?

I think Rudy helped them to find their niche
    and confidence.

I think Flip maybe hold Wally back
    [after watching the rookie thing]

Rudy has climbed to the summit of his profession and of course won the two titles. Now,Flip is a good coach and with KG and Brandon, the Twolves have a dangerous team.Having a big man in the West is a necessity and when it is perhaps the best player in the game ..all the better. It's time for the Twolves to produce and they are(despite the Smith fiasco). As far as making it through the playoffs..ah ah
If you want to start talking about international teams, lets talk about the CBA team,he overrachieved with.Rudy IS a great coach and while I might disagree with rotations, apparent play calling, etc.,there is a broader gameplan at work here. He's had to deal with the political and personal agendas belonging to aging stars while dealing with key injuries also. The offense and defensive schemes are affected by all of this.In the mean time here he is trying to work in young stars and a more guard orriented offense.Being a transitional period,we've just had to deal with it.Keep weaving a healthy Dream into the equation and we are in the playoffs this year.I'd say that's a helluva job considering the state of affairs with regards to the West.
Rudy T has that ability when working with a healthy cast to bring them around to peaking at the right time.I think that is what most coaches strive for and he is VERY good at it.We have been a team without all the pieces to the puzzle, but, if Webber comes and everyone stays healthy, we will be right there.
BTW..Bobrek..where are you ..I told you the Twolves were dangerous.......... [IMG]

Yeah he is the same coach that had Stephon Marbury, and Kevin Garnett and couldn't get out of the first round! By Rudy T I might add! Lets compare, last year Minnesota was a 6 seed and got knocked out of the first round. In 1995 the Rockets were a 6 seed and won an NBA title. And don't tell me the league now was better then it was then because Houston had to beat about 3 60 win teams to get the job done! The great Flip Saunders!? What on earth has the guy done!? Gotten knocked out of the first round every year since 1997!? I mean don't you have to at least get out of the first round before you're called a "great" coach!? Since when is 50 wins and first round exits better then 3 Western conference finals, and 2 NBA championships and a franchise record in wins one season? I misunderstood your comment about Scottie Brooks, so don't have a stroke, but Brooks has more championships and playoff wins then the entire Minnesota roster sans Terrell Brandon, so what's the point? Nobody is saying Flip Saunders didn't do a great job, but you're saying he is better then a guy that has won a pair of championship rings. As for not getting out of the first round with Quitten, well forgive Rudy if he got knocked out of the playoffs by a team that went on to win an nba championship THE FOLLOWING YEAR! The great Flip Saunders? [IMG]

Walt, Los, Cato and a first rounder for Saunders before next week's deadline! Make Rudy T Chief Recruiting Officer! Oh wait that's Keith Jones's job . . . so who's the trainer?? No wonder Cato's still out . . .

JR to Minnesota for a first round pick. What Minnesota doesn't have a first round pick? Do the deal anyway! [IMG]

    hey! go easy!

i'm so disappointed in my fellow Rudy bashers . . . 4 game win streak and they all disappear. Wusses!

Just for the record, the Flip stuff isn't necessarily motivated by dislike / disrepect for Rudy. He (flip) really is an awesome coach.

Who cares about Flip and Rudy, and whatever JR says. Just wait till the regular season ends before people start talking coaches being fired

I just hope JR shuts up about getting Flip because whatever Flip is doing now don't matter if he gets whacked in the playoffs.

I actually was a Rudy-basher last 2 years b'c I never thought Rudy would ever go away from the half-court offense. I can see now that he can win effectively with an offense entirely different from the glory years of 94-96. The only coach (that I know) that changed such dramatic styles so effectively was Pat Riley.

Rudy made me a believer at the end of last year and most of the time this year. I say give him time

why could the great Flip not keep his players
all Happy. Marbury, Garnett and Googs was a
foundation of the future. Young guns to be
molded by their coach. Was he able to keep
    them together and happy . . . .uhm. . . NO!

I thought they were the team of the future.
But management and coaches could not control
their players. .. could not mold them.

Coaching is more than Xs and Os.

There is alot of MEBury in Cuttino . . .but
    Rudy has a way with players . . . I think
his greatest strength is getting the most out
    of some players.
    and an EYE for talent.

With the Wolves now riding a 4 game losing streak (including a home loss to the Grizzlies), should the Rockets still go after Saunders?

latest espn.com poll: who has done the best coaching job of the year?

Saunders is currently in second place behind Larry Brown. Rudy is nowhere to be found.

Yeah, well Rudy is in the process of turning this team around. Last year the Rocks were 34-48, so far this year, 28-26. This from a coach who was used to coaching nothing but playoff teams having to do an about face and rebuild. It says alot for him that he was also able to switch up styles from a post-up Dream team to a fast, guard oriented team. I agree that Dream needs to stay involved, but I give Rudy alot of credit for what hes done.
