I have the Sony and it`s great. The flat screen really makes a big difference.

Man...I don't want to steal anyone's buying impulse. But how much longer before these TVs go down in price pretty significantly?? I'm kinda holding out for that very reason.

check out the 42" flatscreens from dell. I was tempted by them as they are cheap as hell and they are still 16x9 wall mountable tvs

    and 2500
the sony 40" is not 16x9, so that kinds of turns me off.

I owned a Sony Grand Wega LCD TV when they first came out and it had a lot of dead pixels and a real bad ghosting problem. Bought it from Circuit City and they let me return it. I bought a Panasonic HD Plasma instead and love it ten times more.

LCD Projection tv's are notorious for dead pixels, color bleeding and ghost imaging. Of course, the advantages are cabinet depth, great viewing angles, no image burn in and brighter picture, versus a traditional big screen.

I would check out the bbs at avsforum.com before purchasing. They have comparisons on just about all the Tv's out there.

    Same here.

I'm looking for a 53" or higher Widescreen HDTV, they are over 2k now, just waiting for a drop. ;)

Whatever you do, don't get an RCA. I've had 3, their sound sucks.

Those are Dell branded Daewoo screens. I'd stay away.

And do what Sattle says: See avsforums.com. They are major home theater nerds. Just go to the correct forum and start reading. You are in for a major education.

Just remember, an LCD or plasma screen can not equal the picture quality of a good CRT. They only save space and "look cool."

Could you post the link or send it to me via PM? I can't find anything under avsforums, but this is the type of URL I've been searching for since I'm also TV shopping.

    Thanks.

While we're on this topic, does anyone know of any CHEAP decent-sized TVs that will get a decent number of channels? Mine has this thing where certain channels (including the one the VCR uses) only work some of the time. The rest of the time, you get static. (this is on a cable system) It used to happen just for a few minutes while the TV was warming up, but sometimes it happens later and is harder to fix. It's more likely to do it on certain channels. My other TV is fine but only goes up to Channel 36. :(

    This is what I want

Not too expensive either. I would buy it today, if I had room in my townhome.

    Ooops...sorry.

    www.avsforum.com

    No "s"...not plural.

I think you have to get in ID to actually read the forums, but its no big deal at all.

The Toshiba Cinema Series blows the pants off of Sony, and has a slightly better price too.

    http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/televisions/product.asp?model=65HX83

Much better guns on this one. The Sonys have a flicker problem and a software bug that causes some kind of contrast shift.

You can get that Toshiba for under $3000 at most places. Believe it or not, Conn's was the place to go for that TV.
