Tmac and Yao were way better than Howard and Harden.

Yao doesn't go down in 09 and we beat the Lakers to make WCF, and probably win it all. (Denver and Orlando weren't beating us)

TMac and Yao had far better chemistry between them than Harden and Howard. That TMac/Yao pick and roll was DEADLY and we had a smart coach that recognized it and used it as the default option. Howard has significantly declined and never developed a jumpshot, so he's become useless in any playcall.

But those teams didn't have as good of a supporting cast and didn't have Morey in their prime years.

As a one two punch, yes they were better. Yao could score, Tmac could score. Yao wasn't a great defender, but better than Harden and clearly a better scorer than Howard. Tmac was just as talented of a scorer as Harden and a better defender.

We have talent surrounding these guys, they're just ALL playing like ass this year. With Yao and Mac, we had decrepit veterans who almost qualified for the senior discount at Denny's.

Game is not played one on one or two on two. Obviously TMac-Yao team achieved less than HH team, but you will never get a clear cut answer just comparing that leading duos. They all have flaws, but no class differences. I am ok if you put either pair slightly over another as better players.

What separates those teams are 2 main things - role players and characters.

Not to mention Scola or Ron, even if Yao-Mac had a Landry kind of guy who can occasionally grab a board and make a shot or two, they would have been over Dallas and/or Jazz. As much as I feel uncomfortable bragging about leadership from Yao and Mac, those super flawed teams (not talking about backup players, but rather starting line up) are much better than HH led team in that department.

Luther Head was a starting shooting guard for the rockets in the Jazz series. He was 1/12 for the shooting, Only three players scored in the game seven. Stop blaming Yao and Tmac for the loss. Just Look at the Jazz player roster, they had two big men who can shoot, their center can shoot three, which made Yao to guard their PF, which is almost difficult for Howard too, and also had AK 47, Matt Harpring, and Fisher.

Just go ahead to check Yao and Tmac's number in that year playoffs, they may be better than Howard and Harden last year playoffs.

All I know is Yao/Tmac were so much easier to root for than the current team. Those were fun and exciting times.. Now it's just torture watching this team.

Well they were definitely more likeable, even when T-mac quit on the Rockets.

Yup, only complete imbeciles with no knowledge of basketball whatsoever would blame these losses on McGrady/Yao or think Harden riding the team to the WCF (while playing all-time low and sitting on the bench in game 6 vs LAC) means he's better.

Just to show some of the boxscores, the supporting cast was TERRIBLE and it was 2 on 5 basically.
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200704260UTA.html

And look at the team vs the Mavs in 05:

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200505070DAL.html

Starters: Sura, Padgett, McGrady, Wesley, Yao
Bench: Jon Barry, Mike James, Ryan Bowen, Moochie Norris, Deke

These rosters are complete garbage and an insult to any fan.

And yet, imbeciles like tinman act like the losses were on McGrady and show a complete lack of understanding that this is a team sport.

You don't even have to bother discussing anything basketball-related with guys like him, a peanut has the same understanding of the topic.

Tmac fans love to make excuses.

Basketball is a team sport, and it shows that teams with tmac as their leader don't win playoff series.

    Not even in china

underrated even by their own fans. tmac was a two way player. yao was the best offensive big in the game since shaqs decline. lets not forget tmac carried a sorry ass magic team to the playoffs. even harden's first rocket team had more help.

Okur obviously stopped Yao. Yao was limited to averaging 25 points and 10 rebounds in that series. Defending Yao was easy. Just use a mobile guy to front him and he'd be neutralized. :p

They never got past the ****ing first round. Harden/Howard would've won a title last year if they never came up against one of the 3/4 greatest teams of all time.

That's partially also because JVG lacks creativity on offense. But JVG used Yao well and controlled his minutes well. Kinda reminds me of Pop using Duncan. Duncan needs to thank Pop for his long career.
