What a witty comeback and what a waste of bandwidth. Grow up dude, it was a joke. Get your panties out of a bunch and laugh.
I enjoyed the post from rimrocker. Young idealism is refreshing. These students are finding a non-violent and amusing way to make a political point. Whether some of you agree with them or not, everyone should be glad that they are interested in participating in politics and the political process. That's become increasingly rare in this age of, "What does it matter? Why should I vote? It won't make a difference anyway." And the truth is, it does.
I think one problem is that there is too much of the "I'm this ideology so I'll vote for this party....etc." I think people need to find who lines up with their positions on the issues and vote for the guy regardless of party. If you're a Green Party ideology (God help you if you are), vote for Nader. If you're a libertarian like myself, don't vote Republican because you don't want the Democrat (whoever he/she maybe) to win, vote for who matches up with your core beliefs. I think more young people need to get involved. Otherwise, since old people vote and most young folks do not, guess who politicians listen to the most? The AARP/Viagra/Depends crowd and it shows with that blasted prescription drug benefit horsepucky. Either get out and participate or face 70 percent of your wages going to your grandpa scoring viagra through the Feds.
Agreed about pretty much every post in this thread. Man, I cannot believe you guys can descend into name calling and assanine commentary over an article about alterna-cheerleaders. You guys could turn ANYTHING into a third grade put down contest.
Despite what this thread has devolved into, I think this is really neat. Honestly, what's wrong with protesting or demonstrating in creative, peaceful ways? And even though the people in the article were protesting for typically 'liberal' ideals/goals, what does the subject matter have to do with their methods? At the very least, it's harmless (well, as much as ideas are harmless ), effective and probably very fun. *grabs her pom-poms* And besides, 'queer-leader' just sounds too funny.
Bamaslammer, you sound like a total p***y. Walk the walk talk the talk? "I am a real MAN, Pardner!" Give me a F'in break. Next thing, you will be challenging people here to meet at the parking lot of the 7-11 near your house for a little man to man action.
Actually, I will defend bama here. I have agreed with exactly zero of what he has said so far in this site, and even less how he's said it. I think he is bigotted, values diatribe to dialogue, invective to intelligence, and spews out stuff that would make johnheath and T_J seem almost reasonable. But the man served in the Marines, and continues to live in Alabama; He does put his rump where his rhetoric is.
Thanks MacBeth. Actually I live in Georgia, but I'm not insulted. And I do have to admit, "queer leader" is a pretty damned funny.
