i think "pissed" might be a bit harsh. it does seem that some folks are feeling a little let down about the whole timing though. Tim and the folks in marketing have obviously worked really hard trying to please a broad range of tastes/opinions and they should be congratulated on a job well done. it is clearly EXTREMELY difficult to please everybody all the time and if the timing of the release of the jerseys is the worst that's come of this then we should just all sit back and thank god the TEETH are gone. thanks, guys! (sorry about the run-on there;) )

Don't if I should mention it, but I showed the jerseys to two friends of mine.(Spurs fan and a Pistons/Magic fan.) They said they sucked and looked too plain. I was about to say that was the point and smack them, but then I said at least they're better than the old ones. That's when they said the old ones were tight and that they liked them. BTW, for those who are confused, I'm not talking about the red and gold here. I'm talking the famous pinstripes with the "flying dildo with teeth."

Then again, my friends are pretty stupid. After all, they go for the Spurs and Magic/Pistons. :p

edit: oh yeah, I kind of forgot to mention that I got it from the pics from this site. So um....don't hate me. I didn't mean to profit from other people's work. :)

DAM!?, I would say that Tim is already quite embarr(assed) about how things played out this summer. But I don't think it is necessary to direct all of this to him as if it was his wrong doing. Out of respect to him, I would say that it takes some cojones to present himself in person to cc.net.

He is obviously open to ideas. (Which is apparent by all the posts he makes.) I would say that the fact the he is willing to share some of the inside scoop with all of us shows his openness and his underlying intent to make the Rockets a better organisation.

Though all of this played out poorly, I ask myself, why the hell does that matter? When the Texans had their unveiling was it such a groundbreaking event? Do you even remember that anymore. Besides, it was a new organization that had to get the word out to the public.

I am sure that when all is said and done, the Rocks will do something for the public to generate renewed enthusiasm with new unis (as if we haven't had enough lately ie. Yao, new stadium, JVG). Until and after that point how about putting all of this to rest, let the countdown keep ticking for opening season, and start with something that matters (BASKETBALL)

"Special to the Chronicle" ... that's funny :)

I just want to clarify - I certainly wasn't aiming any of my frustration at Tim. I've always found him to be very straight-forward and honest with me and he has been very supportive of the site. This is a Vice President who is spending time talking to Joe Rocket Fan, even if that fan is living in Canada and doesn't spend a dime on the team. That's impressive -- I doubt you'll see this anywhere for any sports team. The reason you won't is because of what you're seeing from a select few now. It's easy for anonymous Bob posting under the alias Yao90210 to take needless potshots at someone important with the team, but it's pretty lame. I'm sure Tim welcomes criticism, but above all be respectful.

If people are upset about something in the uniform design that's one thing, but some people aiming wrath at the "marketing department" for the unis leaking out is kind of silly. I've locked numerous threads of people begging to see the uniforms or asking when they will be able to see them. Now you see them and you want to lash out at someone? You saw the unis from the side before on Cuttino. You saw video game screen shots revealing everything - for weeks now. Now we see photos of the real uniforms. You know you're going to be just as stoked when you see Francis wearing the uniform for the first time (though star players are usually too proud to do those intro fashion shows, so we'll probably see the likes of Mike Wilks and Eric Piatkowski sporting the unis). No one has seen Clutch or Turbo's new outfits either.

Anyhow, my original comments were simply to say this: This is a very popular site, focused entirely on the Rocket "product", that sucks a great deal of time and resources away from me and supportive fans with no return outside of the 'being a fan' angle. That's fine because that's how I've chosen it to be the last 7+ years. However, the Rockets organization and the Houston Chronicle are benefitting a great deal from it, yet would seemingly go out of their way to not support it -- or atleast that has been the case in the past. The uniform story/photos sold newspapers. A fully-moderated board full of thousands of Rockets fans commenting on every issue pertaining to the team is of enormous value to the organization and any media outlet that needs to gauge fan reaction. There is certainly a level of frustration that goes along with that.

Anyhow, it's nothing new - I just felt the need to comment after codell pointed it out. It reminds me though of how I think it's great that ClutchCity.net is so big, but I enjoyed it much more when it was smaller.

That was very cool that the Chronicle went back and changed credit for the photo (it actually stunned me, but it shows you they're reading this), but I wasn't really trying to get credit for the photo since it's not really "mine". I just feel that the Chronicle using the photo that I customized from the site was proof positive of where they got the story from. "Internet", "popular NBA fan site" ... these are the kind of terms used to describe ClutchCity.net in their stories, and in some cases it has originally said "ClutchCity.net" only to have the edited version read a more generic term. I'm talking about the Chronicle, not Feigen, who I have a great deal of respect for.

Anyhow, props to Rocketeer for a great scoop that has sent ripples throughout. This has really become the trademark of the site.

My thoughts on the uniforms: I really like them, especially the home white. I love the road red color more, but the silver I'm not too sure about. I was originally not happy to hear "HOUSTON" was not on the road uniform, but since I've known it now for a few months, I'm not full of hot rage or anything. While I think for websites blue is a much better color, Houston is going back to Rocket Red with a sharp design and I think that is nothing but a huge positive.

Hey I don't know if anyone posted this, but I had ordered the jerseys. I called eastbay and they said all jersey orders will be cancelled because Reebok said the jerseys would not be available until Jan 2004.

What does everyone dislike about the silver/grey? I really like it, and wish it was somewhere on the home ones as well. Why the silver/grey backlash?

    Regarding this whole leak business...........

    Tim,

Hoave you are the Rockets ever considered sueing Eastbay for blowing the secret. I mean, I know you guys have agreements with companies over the web on not to show the uniforms until they are unveiled. Hopefully Esatbay was apart of this group given there history with keeping secrets. And plus, I seriously doubt this is an accident on Eastbay's part. Eastbay blew the Atlanta Falcons secret new uniforms before there were unveiled in a fashion show. The pic of Vick's jersey was posted a week before the planned event and we at Falconsroost.com (a Falcon fan forum) got a hold of it. Once we got a hold of it, the secret was over, just like in your case. The same thing has happened for the Detriot Lions and Denver Nuggets this year too...........and Denver was forced to scrap any BIG plans they had for a scale backed unveiling at a press conference.

    Coincedental...........I think not.

Especially when you consider the fact that the Rockets secret was blown approximately 1 WEEK before a planned event, just like in the Falcon's case.

I feel sorry for you guys. All that hard work you put in for this grand unveiling and now.............its all up in smoke.

Hopefully I have given you a little firepower to strike Eastbay back with.

If not, oh well.........it was worth a shot.

BTW..............splendid job on the uniforms. :)
